It's a classic according to most mainstream metal sources, but when it comes time for me to write it up for this hallowed site, should I give it a CLASSIC tag?

Aaaargh!

We Don't need to FECK!

Bear in mind that this is an underground metal zine, that views albums from a certain perspective and doesn't think that 'being a massive influence on nu-metal' is a Good Thing in general.

Ah sei!

When I say CLASSIC, I mean a site CLASSIC rather than a general classic, so please bear this in mind.

My instincts are against it, but it's always nice to see what the people think. Max would approve. I can see him shaking his big hairy head right now.

Vote above.

It's this that's stopping me from voting.

For me it's classic because it was one of my first metal albums, but that's obviously an opinion coloured by nostalgia. I was like 13.

I mean, clearly in terms of sales and reputation (and quality, I think) it deserves to be labelled as a Metal Classic - but is it a MetalReviews.com CLASSIC? Plus, Sepultura have a fair few CLASSIC slots already...

I wouldn't say it's a classic. IMO opinion it is a great album, I absolutely love those tribal influences, but a classic? No.
It's a cornerstone in their discography, most definitely. But looking from this site's perspective it's just a great nineties metal album.

Well, I remember having a similar discussion about Korn's debut classicness...
The decision back then was: Korn is a classic, but not a MR classic. This album deserves the same.
(And I'm comparing the circunstances, not the album. Roots is 100000 times better than Korn's debut, but 100000 times worst than BtR o Arise).

No.
Do you guys need some suggestions?
Because the criteria needed to be met in order for the coveted classic label should be more than years lapsed.

Unless, of course you mean a classic example of a once great band starting to suck more than a Hoover De Luxe in the hands of an OC speedfreak.

Seriously, an archive? Why not, but dear Goat, 'tis not a classic.

The request's zone is full of CLASSICS.

Angel Witch and Thin Lizzy, for example.

It wasn't at the top of my list for classic picks, I admit. But in terms of reviewing the Seps back catalogue - something that should be done, as with other 'big name' bands - it's interesting to see peoples' views as to whether it deserves a classic tag. I'm not saying that it would be bumped in front of other classics requested (Thin Lizzy, as Ganesh mentioned) but I do think we need to take note of readers' views on the subject. Pretty unanimous so far, heh.

A resounding Nay.

I gave this album away with my Korn albums many years ago.

The last great Sepultura release for me anyway, I spent many hours listening to this when it came out, it rocked.

Fuck no. I hate Sepultura.

Even from an objective view I say fuck no.

God I had to listen to this shit in highschool with some of the guys who I hung out with who told me that like Soilwork and In Flames was " happy metal " and that Satyricon was sacrificial cult music.

See, now in the review I can say 'a recent poll of MetalReviews.com forumites found overwhelmingly that this album is not considered worthy of classic status.'

In Flames is boring.

Sepultura is far from it.
