Post subject: | Favorite Metallica Album Overall? |
Having been on a bit of a Metallica kick lately, I have to ask: What is your favorite album overall? It's a tough choice for me, but on the whole, I have to go with And Justice For All. It has the best lyrical writing (probably by a longshot, since otherwise, Metallica's lyrics have always been spotty at best), best guitar riffs, most interesting song structures, and best guitar solos. I even kind of enjoy the lighter production, as the music on the album is supposed to make the listener THINK more than THRASH. Favorite song? Harvester Of Sorrow, followed by Blackened, and then One. Also, the two released cover songs during the Justice sessions (Breadfan and The Prince) are awesome. Here's my ranking of the other Metallica albums (Garage, Inc. and S&M don't count): 2. Master Of Puppets 3. Load 4. Death Magnetic 5. ReLoad 6. Kill'em All 7. The Black Album 8. Ride The Lightning 9. St. Anger Yeah, I know it's weird that I ranked RTL so low. Honestly, however, I just never really liked it beyond may be four or five songs (namely Fight Fire With Fire, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade To Black, Creeping Death, and to a lesser extent, Trapped Under Ice). I know it's a classic. But that doesn't mean I have to adore it. |

^^ Blasphemy. I voted mop. I think it's their definite best. |

Ride the Lightning without a doubt. I feel the same way about Master of Puppets that you do with RTL. There's a lot of good songs on MoP but hardly any that I feel are essential Metallica. |

RtL or KeA but AJfA is also quite good. MoP is insanely overrated. |

It's almost impossible for me to decide between MoP or RtL. I think MoP might have a very slight edge just because RtL has Escape on it, the only song between the two albums that isn't a classic. |

AJFA for me. Has their best song - Dyers Eve. |

what's wrong with Escape? It's 10 times better then that boring 8+ minute garbage song known as Master of Puppets. |

AJFA, not even close for me--the production works in a bizarre way, 'Blackened, AJFA, Harvester of Sorrow, One, and Dyer's Eye' are all in the very best of their material, and the technicality worked wonders for their music. RTL is very good, and as Devoted Walnut noted, MOP is overrated. |

Every time I see 'mop' I just think 'means of production,' haha. I'd probably have to go with Lightning. |

Eat shit, Puppets is one of the greatest songs of all time ;) And Escape isn't a bad song, it's just a bit bland when everything else pretty much slays. |

Escape is NWOBHM goodness, Master or Puppets is incredibly boring and dull. Sure, at one point in time I liked it, but I have grown up and realised how overrated MoP is, whether it's the song or the whole album. IMO obviously |
