So apparently Keep of Kalessin's new single "Dragontower", is being heralded as the new "Unspoken King" of the year 2010. If you read the reviews on MA everyone is calling it shit, granted in my opinion the single sounds basically like Soilwork. If you look at the reviews people are mad what's your take on this obvious grab for the mainstream? Do you think their next album will logically sound like this since their appearance at Eurovision?

If it's being called shit on MA then it's probably good. They'll hate anything that gets relative public exposure. I saw their performance for Eurovision and the song rocked heavily.

Dragontower sounds nothing like Soilwork. Jeez, more like Melechesh to me. It's a shit song, and KoK have always been very overrated in my eyes - I doubt that the new album will be as bad as The Unshitten Shit, but neither is Fridge correct in thinking that bad on MA automatically = awesome. Just some of the time, heh.

Come on, this is much better than a lot of "mainstream" metal.

I did listen to it before I formed my opinion, Fridge. As I've said elsewhere, I consider this a complete sellout by KoK.

I've listened to other samples from the new album from studio reports and everything else sounds like classic KoK and the Dragontower song available on youtube is on the 3 minute version of a 5:43 long song. I would await hearing the new album before passing judgement. I think the song rocks btw, even though it's a watered down version. Wonder what the final studio version will sound like?

I should clarify - going on Eurovision being the sellout, not the song itself.

Why do Metal bands even go to Eurovision? There's really no point in doing that.

Can you honestly blame them for trying to gain more fans? They should consider themself lucky to be able to present their music to so many people, i guess we have different definitons of sell-out.

It's fun. And hey, Lordi won.

Eurovision is not a milestone on the path to success. It's an admission of failure, and the thinking behind going on it is hey, might as well grab some quick and easy success with a desperately quirky crap song before everyone forgets who we are! Lordi winning Eurovision does not make it cool. It makes Lordi even shitter than they already are, and puts them in the same league as every other soul-selling failure on there. Hell, the only reason most people over here tuned in was to hear Sir Terence of Wogan's hilarious commentary, and when a thing is popular because it's shit, Black Metal bands should not be unironically partaking. There are other ways to get fans, more respectable and more effective.

Or it could just be taking the piss of the other eurovision "bands". Having someone on there who can actually play is always a breath of fresh air. Gorgoroth should go on and squirt goat blood everywhere.

But that's the point! Taking the piss simply is not necessary, since everyone knows that it's shit anyways.

Edit: I mean, Nattefrost going on and performing Cunt Cunt Gimme More with fat naked dancers would be all sorts of awesome, but it's pretty obvious that there's a difference between something like that and KoK's lame single.

"Haha, look! We're a Heavy Metal band! And we're on some crappy Pop song contest! How cool is that? Hahaha! We're gonna show all those crappy pop bands!"

"NO HEAVY METAL BAND, YOU ARE THE CRAPPY POP BANDS"

and then heavy metal band was a zombie.

Maybe, you know, to make a living. I know you guys love to think downloading music doesn't make a big difference, but it does. That's why these bands and musicians are doing these TV shows and shit now.

Music fans have ruined the music industry.

Do you watch Eurovision, then?

Do you actually have any evidence that they are going on because of downloading, or is that just something you made up?

It's a bit rich, to be honest, given that the music industry was built on exploiting music fans.

Anyway, I don't like to call bands "sell outs" cos it's not like they have ever subscribed to any principles in the first place AFAIK. What it is, though, is pretty lame. Eurovision is lame, and metal bands doing it is lame, even if at the time it provides some laffs.

(of course, like Goat says, the laffs would be trebled if it was something a bit more.... "aarrghhhwtf")

After listening to the song it's relatively inoffensive, the only real problem I have is the chorus is really terrible.

KoK got a strange amount of praise, I thought. I mean, they're not like really bad, but they're not all that good, either.
