what of all the bands to come out since the advent of metalcore, different rising styles of death metal, or whatever have you do you think to be the most influential band out of all (whether good or bad). My opinion is The black dahlia murder and Necrophagist |

i was thinking Necrophagist too, since the whole tech death thing seems to be primarily inspired by them. |

How can they be new and influential? Tech death didn't start with Necrophagist. |

Then maybe relevant. What new band has set the bar the highest? |

I only said The black dahlia murder because of the slew of mainly deathcore bands and maybe some latter metalcore bands that copied their sound almost completely. If you listen to most of the deathcore bands they copy Trevor's vocal style of highs and lows of course this is just my opinion. I thought Necrophagist because of this surge of boring technical bands. But i like Frigid's question, No Necrophagist never started tech death but they are responsible somewhat for it's resurgence. |

Myrkskog - Deathmachine. Try and raise that bar. Fail. |

Obscura is pretty sick. Too technical? |

yeah but Spawn of Possession, The Faceless, Odious Mortem, Decrepit Birth, Obscura, etc, etc sound more like Necrophagist than they do any of the early 90s tech death bands. |

I guess Decapitated has helped the recent tech-wave a little. |

Don't know, what does "new" mean exactly? I'm guessing Nile, if they're "new" enough. |

I'm gonna go with post-2000, and if I'm right Decapitated's Winds of Creation gave death metal a kick in the arse when it was released so I'm gonna go Decapitated. |

Why not Nile? Is it because they're literally un-coverable? |

never Nile though eww.. Whats wrong with nile? Listen to Cast Down the Heretic, the solo is so bruuuutal it makes my hair stand up every time. A truly underrated album. And In Their Darkened Shrines is as classic as it gets in death metal. The problem is Nile are really just a faster Suffocation with an egyptian theme so how do you decide which band is the inspiration for all the similar brutal death bands nowadays. The obvious vote goes to phagist for me. Just look at the recent explosion of similar tech death bands. |

Why does everyone recommend Annihilation of the Wicked I own the album and its the most boring one in my collection. Comparing them to Suffocation is blasphemy!!! |
