Quote:
British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH have set "Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder" as the title of their new album, due in October via Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to 2006's "Thornography" is a 72-minute concept record about a legendary serial killer from the 15th Century, Gilles De Rais, a French nobleman who fought alongside Joan of Arc and accumulated great wealth before becoming a satanist, sexual deviant and a murderer.

"Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder" track listing:

01. In Grandeur And Frankincense Devilment Stirs
02. Shat Out Of Hell
03. The Death Of Love
04. The 13th Caesar
05. Tiffauges
06. Tragic Kingdom
07. Sweetest Maleficia
08. Honey And Sulphur
09. Midnight Shadows Crawl To Darken Counsel With Life
10. Darkness Incarnate
11. Ten Leagues Beneath Contempt
12. Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder
13. Corpseflower

Given that their last good album, Damnation And A Day, was also a concept album, I'm cautiously optimistic. Especially since:

Quote:
The band's official message boards recently revealed parts of an interview with Paul Allender, conducted by MédiaMatinQuébec: "We already have four new songs ready and I have to say that they are... much faster than the songs on Thornography. [They] sound like old Cradle of Filth... A mixture of Midian and Dusk. . ."

Here's hoping...

PLUS, Dani's writing a book! A book!

A band is saying their new album is the combination of their two best albums?

I hope it doesn't have a whole lot of annoying spoken interludes. Dani Filth's book won't sell because his fanbase doesn't know how to read.

The last COF album I enjoyed was Midian. And Bitter Suits in parts.

:P

I'm reading your post now.

I used to be a huge CoF fan but as the years go on and I learn about new bands and music, they've kinda been a bit left behind. I'll probably end up buying it as I own the rest of their albums, but I'm hoping it's a step up from the last release.

My favorite Cradle of Filth album was Midian back... when I used to actually frequently listen to Cradle of Filth. I'll probably check it out when it comes out

+1 on the fact that COF fans are not all 14 and can't read. I'm still a big fan of COF and I own their entire catalog as well. Their music has taken a shift over the years but I've enjoyed the directions that they've taken. I realize that many people just write them off as being a ridiculous gimmick band but some of us actually do enjoy listening to them. I'll definitely get the new one.

I actually found Thornography to be quite enjoyable. It showed a much more stripped down version of the band and I think it was a nice change of pace from Damnation and a Day. I'm not exactly sure what it was about Nymphetamine, but I really found that most of the tracks blended together on that one.

Midian is the best one though.

I'm also a fan of CoF; I was just being sarcastic. If you don't realize that a majority of CoF fans are 14 year old teenagers than I'm sorry.

The fact that this album is 72 minutes long means it isn't going to be stripped down and to the point which therefore means a lot of filler. CoF is great when it's blunt and incredibly annoying when it attempts to be epic and comes off as pretentious and, for lack of a better word, gimmicky.

A good deal of metal fans are young and I certainly understand that. I believe the point we were trying to make is that making sweeping generalizations is just not a good practice.

As for the upcoming COF cd I'll wait until I hear it before I make any criticisms. For all we know it could be the best thing they've ever recorded.

I got into CoF as a 14 year old teenager and I could read fine. They were one of the first metal bands that brought me into the genre.

Everytime I listen to COF, it's like a guilty pleasure. I really enjoy most of their stuff and I'm pretty sure the new one will be a top quality album.

I've never understood what's so special about them. I could enjoy the Bitter suites album a bit, but I just can't stand Dani. He sounds like a ten year old with his balls in a vice grip.

I don't think that they are special but they are good in what they do. I remember listening to Dusk and her embrace the first time... I had never heard something like that

But I agree that Dabni's voice is the main turn off for most people.

By the way, your sig is amazing! Where is this taken from?

 EVERYONE comments on it, the "who are you"-thread in hellheim (or something like that) some of the members have analyzed them both  I didn't know myself, I found them on some death metal bands myspace.

Hatchet is exactly what they say on that other thread. Haven't seen it myself but I'm getting it as we speak.

Hatchet is exactly what they say on that other thread. Haven't seen it myself but I'm getting it as we speak.

The first pic on the left is from Hatchet and the second one is from Silent Hill.

Listening to the new Moonspell (review next week, yadda yadda) it's strange: like a really good Cradle of Filth album, without Dani's OTT vocals. The new CoF will have much to beat...
