It's looking like I might be taking a train ride to Chicago this summer, because they aren't coming to Michigan. Losers. Seriously though, At the Gates and Municipal Waste? I'm there.

I could never get into ATG. They sound too much like all these crappy metalcore bands....

Tut tut SotS may sound like that (although that's because the metalcore bands are ripping them off, not vice versa) but Terminal Spirit Disease doesn't at all and the earlier stuff even less so.

Yea Zad, you should check out The Red In The Sky Is Ours, their best IMHO.

i listened to slaughter of the soul yesterday and it sounds more like 90s swedish death metal than metalcore o.O. i think its influence isn't as big as people say it is

It sounds like melodeath, not like old school swedish death (Entombed, Dismember, Grave). And it definitely isn't metalcore. Pure melodic death metal, and one of the best albums in that genre as well.

It's not their fault that metalcore bands keep ripping their riffs off.

Don't get too attached...In an interview in Decibel, they've stated flat out that this reunion is for touring only...There's no plans to record any new material.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Still works for me, because I'd love to see them play live. I don't know if I'd put it past them to record a new album, though. Everyone has different commitments now, or, if your Tomas Lindberg you have several different commitments. And whatever "it" is, I don't know if they have "it" anymore. Also, Darkest Hour is on that tour? Cool? I guess? Not really?

I'm not huge on ATG either even though I love melodeath but saying they sound like crappy metalcore bands? That's pretty far out man.

The early ATG albums are awesome. Slaughter of the Soul sounds too much like modern Swedish Melodeath. However, The Red in the Sky is Ours, and With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness are awesome. They have some of the most imaginative guitar melodies. Great band. I know one of the members is currently in Disfear, they play around Michigan quite a bit and are pretty sweet.

It was a while ago that I checked them out. Will listen again due to general outrage, ok?

Just heard SOTS quite recently, its fucking awesome and on a completely other level to the metalcore rip offs. For one thing, its definitely more brutal.

I never thought ATG was particularly brutal death metal, or melodic death metal. They're just sort of there. One of those straight-up death metal bands that leads the pack.

I meant more brutal than metalcore, as far as the entire DM spectrum goes, they're not really brutal.

I wasn't responding directly to your post, as far as them being brutal.

Saw them at Sweden Rock last month. Very good! The set focused more on later stuff.
