Along with Hell Awaits, this is probably the most overlooked album in Slayer's discography. So what's the overall verdict? I think it's a Hit. It contains two of my all-time favorite Slayer songs (Divine Intervention and SS-3), but pretty much every song on the album is a winner - although Mind Control has a slightly annoying guitar solo IMO. I also like the album's rough/muddy production. Gives it a very dark and evil vibe. It's also probably Slayer's most lyrically mature album (next to may be South Of Heaven). The only problem is that it does take a few listens to really get into (well, for me at least). |

Hit. I've only listened to it once, but I saw no problems with it at all. |

Hit, but then I like everything Slayer's ever done, including Diabolus and the punk covers album. |

I dislike Slayer post-Seasons and most of that stuff besides RiB stopped amusing me once I started listening to more and more diverse metal. |

I wish there was an unsure choice. I like it but I also do not like it. Some good songs, some bad songs. But I guess that is Slayer on every album... |

I've always disliked Slayer and while I know they have been a huge influence in the world of metal and I do give them respect for being a band and making tunes but I absolutely hate them. Despite that hate I think they put on a solid live show. Album is a miss in my book. :: Shrug :: |

Hit. The first half of the album, Killing Fields, Blood Sex Murder Art, Fictional Reality, Dittohead and Divine Intervention are fantastic songs. Mind blowing stuff. But the album kind of loses it towards the later half with Serenity In Murder being the only track that lives up to the first 5. Not that they are bad tracks, but the first 5 are so damn good, the remaining just pale in comparison. Nevertheless a very good album. Just noticed. My 666th post in a thread about Slayer. Wat a coincidence ! ![]() |
