Anybody got this one yet? I'm so fucking disapointed, they make and awesome fucking album and advance onto a more melodic style and then all but lose it here. The fact that they let Steve play some guitar just means some bits are shit and overall I just don't find the songs memorable save for Severed Ties.

What the hell, Deicide?

I like it. You don't have all the cool lead parts, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You're right that the tracks aren't as memorable though.

It just seems like a run of the mill album. Especially the fact that when Stench came out it was a major event yet I only realised this was out when I happened to stumble across it in a CD shop.

There are a few cool bits though, just after the 2 minute mark of Hate of all Hatreds Glen's vocals are fucking awesome because they're literally indecipherable, as well as the opening of Horror in the Halls of Stone where the screams are great.

I also reckon the lyrics have taken a turn for the worse, by trying to get less ridiculous the album loses the character that early Deicide had. Even Stench had a song called Death to Jesus which is clearly win.

it wouldn't be Deicide if they didn't start getting worse immediately after releasing a good album.

I'm going to be all controversial and suggest that people that can only like Deicide if it's full of widdly guitars aren't Death Metal enough. The one track I've heard is kickass, I'll listen to the rest ASAP.

It's not like there aren't any widdly guitars in there, just not full of it.

Widdly guitars make death metal more than a wall of formless noise that makes every single album by every single band sound the same.

Such is why I don't listen to much DM anymore.

Formless noise? The last Deicide album was pretty easy listening compared to most DM due to the production and melodic solos.

Old Deicide is extremely evil and fun to listen death metal, but musically and songwriting wise, the stench of redemption was the best they ever released.

MH_B: I never said it was? I was saying widdly guitars are good, because they add a stronger sense of melody to a song so that it differentiates itself from the similarity of chug riff sounds. I find a lot of DM sounds similar because of that.

Didn't know I had to be so verbose.

I wasn't trying to be confrontational, I was just saying.

Haha, I originally wrote that in capitals by accident: I WASN'T TRYING TO BE CONFRONTATIONAL

I didn't mean it to be confrontational. I was just being really, really verbose because I was really stoned.
