If Erik Rutan cut his hair, dyed it black and changed the name of his band to SHE HATES ETERNALLY whilst keeping the music 100% as before, would you still listen/buy the albums?

This is a relevant question. Think about it.

Yes unless he completely shaved his head because that might be too borderline Sinead O'Connor.

Since it's pretty easy to tell Death Metal from shitty Deathcore, I think I would.

Yes. She Said Destroy have a crap name, and still make good music.

Case in point: It Dies Today. On The Caitiff Choir there are some parts you just know could easily have fit on any DM album.

Yeah, i think there's a lot more similarity between the new deathcore bands and death metal than you guys like to admit...I think it's just that deathcore bands are becoming more death metal-ish.

Oh, definately, but the deathcore lot tend to follow the same narrow path rather than branch off and experiment, which can get annoying. Most Death Metal bands nowadays seem to just play what they think people will like rather than being original, and whilst most can do it well, it's a bit of an infertile period, isn't it?

IMO deathcore is just the next phase of metalcore attempting to be more acceptable by diehard metal fans. There are good bands in the genre just like there are decent metalcore bands but many are just mallcore bands with harsher vocals and what not.

Overall they're just as lacking in inspiration and innovation as mallcore/metalcore bands. There are some worth listening to but isn't it really only because they're directly mimicking other straight death metal bands?
