On which Borknagar CD's did he perform the vocal work on? I'm interested in buying these CD's.

The Archaic Course and Quintessence. I would recommend starting with the former.

I really like his voice alot. That's why I was interested in finding the Borknagar CD's that he performed on. Is his vocal work on those CD's similar to his work with Dimmu Borgir?

Bullshit. The Archaic Course is easily his best vocal work to date. That plus better songs than anything Dimmu Borgir has ever done, and you get a far superior album.

But all in all, the albums with Garm are still superior...

Sure. I'm just saying that The Archaic Course is a criminally underestimated album, and Quintessence is not without its rewards either.

Right, yeah. As long as they don't have Vintersorg, then you can't go wrong with Borknagar.

Quick Q: why so much shit for Vintersorg generally? I listened to some of his songs the other day, and it's nowhere near as bad as people say?

I was going to ask the same thing. I was just sampling a few songs with Vintersorg and I didn't mind him at all.

BTW....where the hell have I been that I missed this band. I'm loving what I'm hearing though. Better late than never as they say. I feel like I've been living under a damn rock.

It's a matter of taste I think, but 1) I can't stand Vintersorg's clean vocals and 2) the songwriting just isn't that good anymore. This band has been in a steady decline since its sophomore album, and Vintersorg's noodling was the deathblow.

What he said...

Empiricism and Epic just sound limp and weak in comparison to their other albums (haven't heard the newest one yet). Sure, they have gems here and there, but overall, the releases with Garm (and/or Vortex) are superior.

Besides Vintersorg sounding painfully bad in some areas (using his clean voice), his harsh vocals are just so ordinary...

I totally agree.

I wasn't saying Dimmu is better than Borknagar; it is just that Dimmu builds it up to showcase his vocals making them so epic. As for Vortex's albums in their entirety, I would say Arcturus 'Sideshow Symphonies' is better than the Borknagar albums with him.

That is indeed a great album. I'm finding it much better than La Masquerade... (heresy!).

Have you got the Masters of Disguise EP? It's Arcturus' best work.

Sideshow Symphonies is a very slow grower and it hasn't quite clicked with me yet. I find the relatively weak production a bit irksome. The songs sound much better on the live DVD, go figure.
