Opeth.com wrote:
"Watershed" is the name of Opeth´s 9th studio observation. The album has just been mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren with M. Åkerfeldt. The album consist of 7 songs and the titles are as follows:

1. Coil
2. Heir Apparent
3. The Lotus Eater
4. Burden
5. Porcelain Heart
6. Hessian Peel
7 Hex Omega

All the songs have been written by M. Åkerfeldt apart from "Porcelain Heart" which was co-written with Fredrik Åkesson. One additonal track, "Derelict Herds" has also been recorded and this was written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. On top of this, 3 cover songs has been recorded. "Bridge of sighs" from Robin Trower´s 1974 Lp with the same title, "Den ständiga resan" (sung in Swedish) by Marie Fredriksson as well as the classic Alice in Chains song, "Would?".

The album was recorded at Fascination street studios during November 1 and December 13. Some addtional recordings were done between January 3rd and 7th. Produced by Jens Bogren and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Opeth.

Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I´ve worked so hard with these songs for quite some time now, I´ve listened to 'em a zillion times. I don't hate them just yet! The album sounds great sonically and I think I can hear us evolving as the record plays on. It is taking us somewhere musically and I don't know where. It's very exciting to say the least! I can't remember having enjoyed a recording this much ever before."

The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with Åkerfeldt. Release date is yet to be confirmed but Roadrunner worldwide will have it out sometime in the Springtime of this year.

I guess this wasn't posted on Blabbermouth and consequently
not in the news section here...

Anyway, woot?

Woot, indeed. Hopefully they'll be going all 70's prog on us, with plenty of mellotrons and stuff!

Lotus Eater, and Dead Can Dance's The Lotus Eaters...

i only heard a few DCD songs and i hated them (sorry), i'm not an Opeth fan but they have their moments, and i hope they don't go DCD on this album.

I think it's a coincidence, but I love DCD, and Lisa Gerrard making a guest appearance on an Opeth album would make it amazing. Doubt it'll happen, alas, so fear not.

Hopefully the album will live up to its title.

Come on! Somebody had to make a comment like that eventually.

As an all-around Opeth fan in general, this is pleasently surprising news; not to mention that I was one of about seven or eight people who actually thought Ghost Reveries was one of their better efforts, so there's the appealing possibility that Watershed will use that album as a foundation for their new progressions.

Too bad June is so far off from now...

Well I was definitely overexaggerating, but for the most part I've noticed that many people thought it just didn't compare with older material (like, say, Blackwater Park) or that it was downright dull...excluding the review on this site, of course.

The Lotus Eater...

Actually, I always thought many people considered Ghost Reveries to be one of Opeth's best albums (possibly even their best overall). I'd personally say it's definitely a toss-up between that and Blackwater Park.

And Opeth covering Alice In Chains? Now THIS I gotta hear! Especially since I listened to Dirt (which features Would) just this afternoon while at work.

That's what I thought when I saw that song title. It would be interesting to see Opeth cover some Nevermore

Ghost reveries was written before they signed with roadrunner, so roadrunner had no real say on the writing of it. With watershed I bet roadrunner had a lot of input. lets hope it isn't like most roadrunner albums and sucks.

The Grand Conjuration destroys anything on Blackwater Park.

Really looking forward to this album. Here's hoping that one of their new songs screams Comus!

Ghost Reveries has grown on me a lot, I used to think it was their second worst now I think it's 3rd best after Still Life and My Arms

ghost reveries was my introduction to opeth. Now i have all of their albums. I think orchid , my arms and ghost reveries are their best.

Do you guys think that it would be smart to buy it day one or wait a month or two for the special edition that roadrunner always puts out?

Other than the name for their third album and maybe a song or two here and there has anything Opeth done screamed Comus? Some acoustic bits maybe. I dunno, when I think of Comus, I manly think of insane Roger Wootton vocals, which Opeth don't have.

I wondered that. Trouble is, this is one of the albums that I'm really looking forward to, and I want to hear it asap.
