Taken from Wikipedia:

"The Absence recently started a promotion in which audience members are allowed to trade in their Trivium t-shirts for The Absence ones after a concert. They plan on having a mass burning of these garments. Trivium is a band which The Absence along with others of the 'Metal Community' feels has been commercialized and has lost touch with its metal roots, and this promotion is one of the ways that they feel they can keep true American metal alive."

Response?

What's funny is that they think The Crusade is going away from the metal roots. Major lawlz.

Burning any sort of icon is intolerant bullshit, but it's Trivium so bollocks to them. This could be a major backfire, though. No dignity to it. You don't see Attilla leading 'fuck Bullet For My Valentine!' chants at Mayhem concerts, do you?

I can't say Trivium is veering from their " metal roots " as The Crusade sounds like old thrash... But whatever. The Absence is the shit and I think they're a very talented group, they can say whatever they want. :D

Has Trivium responded yet? Might be worth checking their forum for a laugh...

Fuck The Absence.

In the grand scope of music, these two bands are so fucking close stylistically, it's not even funny.

In the food world, it's like a red apple accusing a green apple of soiling the name of good fruit everywhere.

Speaking of unabashed plagarism, how come Evile don't get nearly as much flak for completely ripping off Seasons-era Slayer?

Because they are not so popular.

Because they're old-school Thrash as opposed to metalcore? And there's more than just Seasons-era Slayer there, imho.

I actually went and looked, and it doesn't appear as though anyone has acknowledged the act yet. But I have the feeling that once this promotion really starts to kick in, Trivium will start to retaliate in some fashion. Which sucks, because cross-band fueds are never a good thing...a lesson that bands like Slayer still have yet to learn, unfortunately.

However it turns out, The Absence isn't going to reap any benefits. What they're attempting to do is essentially define what "real" American metal is, which, quite frankly, they have no right to do. Personally, I think The Absence is a much greater group of musicians than Trivium, but I know plently of even better bands who are more than willing to accept metal from all across the spectrum. Hopefully at least a few of the band's more devoted fans are uncomfortable with the concept of being told what not to like.

Although good musicians The Absence sounds like any around the mill Melodic Death Metal. Their latest album is sort of by the number and I got bored with it after a while. As for Trivium I still enjoy The Last Crusade and Ascendancy. They had much more original guitar work than the bland generic plague of the riders album.

So I find it ridicule for The Absence to pull such a stunt. I hope Trivium simply ignores it. I know my opinion might not be popular here on this subject so I'm expecting to be flamed. lol

From Your Grave and Riders of the Plague are very well done albums in my opinion so a general " Fuck you " is a bit extreme.

I mean I guess playing an older school style of melodeath could be by the number but if you're looking that deep into it then it's like you're looking for something to pick apart. I think the Absence is a solid band and I'm personally glad they're putting out albums... Then again I guess I'm one of the few who still or actually ever did enjoy melodeath ,anymore.

While I don't understand why they're picking on Trivium in such a trivial way, they're still a damn good band.
