I'll be truthful and admit that, of all the Opeth albums I own (basically everything after Still Life), this is probably the weakest. The songs just aren't as powerful or grandiose as they were on Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries, and the songs are rather plodding and directionless compared to other Opeth albums. Plus, if Opeth really wanted that whole heavy/light contrast with Deliverance and Damnation, what they really should've done was do away with the clean vocals and soft/acoustic passages on Deliverance altogether and make it a straight-up, no-holds-barred prog-death album. I may sound like I'm totally ripping this album apart, but I do still think it's a great album. If it were by any ordinary prog band, I wouldn't be complaining. But being an Opeth album, I do have to compare it to their other albums. It still gets an easy "Hit" from me. |

imo its tedious in the extreme. Opeth are nothing without their soft-->heavy transitions so an album of mostly heavy stuff is fail. |

Miss. I like most things Opeth has made, but Deliverance is a very dull affair. Thankfully Damnation is such a fantastic album. |

deliverance was a weak album for opeth. I think that working on two albums at once is too much for a band like opeth. Damnation was also weak. It lacked that brutal to light and back again awesomeness. but it was good for what it was |

Easily their worst. And a pretty dull album in itself. Big miss. |

It has some really awesome moments, and By The Pain I See In Others is one of the best Opeth tracks ever, imo, but it does tend to drag around some songs, like, a lot. And for a long time too. I'm kinda stuck in the middle here. I expect better from Opeth, but this isn't a bad album. I'll just be nice and say hit. |

Personally I don't like Opeth, and this album didn't really win me over. Talented guys and all, but generally I like more upbeat melodic metal. :: Shrug :: I'm really indifferent towards the album. Plus I didn't what they were trying to do with the album. Just didn't work for me. I'll say miss. |

I really loved this album and I rate it very highly. I remember the first time I heard this (driving thru Switzerland on a cold winter day) and how it reminds me of that day every time I play it. To be honest I doubt Opeth can release a below-average album and this one is no exception. I guess the only draw-back is that it needs a certain mood to really enjoy it; one where you're completely relaxed and not thinking about the worries of the world. Not my favorite Opeth album (which is definitely Morningrise) and certainly not their weakest. |

Miss. Has some decent material (end of Deliverance), but in general is pretty bland. |

+1, that is the truth. The album kicks ass and the drumming part in the title track after 11 minutes into the song is jaw dropping. ![]() |

Deliverance is one of the only Opeth albums I really listened to start-to-finish. |

Good album but overall probably Opeth's worst. It has great elements to it- A Fair Judgement, the DunDunDun bit at the end of Deliverance, and Some parts of Master's Apprentice. But overall it's the one I listen t the least. |

It's the only Opeth I own, but that is all about to change seeing as how I just recently heard some of their other stuff. Btw, I voted hit. I like it for what it is, but compared to some of the other albums I'd say its pretty boring. |

Hit. The songs themselves are good, it's just without the acoustic tracks for balance Opeth are way too heavy going. |
