Well, I read a lot of black metal reviews and one thing always left me intrigued. Which drummer is better? I really don't know, I love them all, but I would like to hear your opinion :) (I may have forgot someone, but don't be to hard on me  )

P.S. I lied, I have my favourite drummer, but the lead position changes aprox each month

Nice thread Desolate, I love this poll thingys.

It's really hard to choose one; but at the end of the day I guess it comes up to Frost and Trym. Emperor is my favorite band so I guess I'll go for Trym.......

And no one will vote for Hellhammer cause he sold his soul in The Kovenant :x (In Times Before the Light and Nexus Polaris were awesome and even Animatronic was good, but S.E.T.I. ...)

But I still think he's great :)

Irregardless, Trym still kicks his ass. I mean, come on. Ever listen to Curse You All Men? An Elegy of Icaros? Ye Entrancemperium? Thus Spake the Nightspirit? The Tongue of Fire? Wait, of course you have. Well, you get the general idea.

Trym is a god.

Frost is good to, but

emperor > satyricon/1349.

btw, who's that in your avatar desolate?

I went for Horgh. Normally I would go for Trym but he seems to be getting enough attention already. Also i pretty much think tryms most impressive performance is on Enslaved - Frost and his later work with Emperor and Zyklon is, although incredible, not as ambitious.

Horgh is just amazing. I downloaded a small live clip of him soloing and it kicked my ass even with shitty sound...

I had to slap my hand to stop myself from giving a token award to Varg. I tend to do that standing in the awesomeness of Burzum, but held back and decided to choose something on drum merit.

I picked Frost, figuring I generally don't pay attention to drumming, but his makes me stay front and center, and seems to me the stuff of legends.

It was a difficult decision with Frost and Hellhammer in the competition, but Trym is unreal, so I went with him...
I don't think Hellhammer played on "In Times Before the Light" at least not on the original version; is was Nagash.

It was between Frost & Trym for me as well. It was an easy choice for me though. Frost ALL THE WAY! His work on 1349 amazes me. I like Hellhammer as well, but I think Trym & Frost are better. Being in better bands helped as well haha. All in all, Trym & Frost are amazing drummers.

It was Nagash actually, but I meant that it was a great Covenant album...

Frost kicked his ass indeed (on Liberation) (Trym? Never! ), but I think Hellhammer would've played better...

I don't really like Hellhammer but I must say that his work in Grand Declaration of War is amazing......

This is a difficult poll, but overall I have no alternative but Hellhammer. Only because he is the best ALL-AROUND drummer. He has the best freakin patterns I've ever heard, and my attempts to replicate them were feeble and carpal-tunnel-inducing. "De Mysteriis" has such a great sound with those deep sounding toms and thumping double-kick. His ride work is also very unreal on "Grand Declaration" He's also a great blaster and plays with unbelievable power for someone who goes so fast...Only Horgh is more powerful, but Horgh doesn't play as fast or intense as Hellhammer. Besides, I'm always playing his work inside my head when I'm writing or typing, so my vote is for him. A name I found omitted (although I'm assuming you're only going for Norway drummers) is Reno Killerich. There are others who exceed in individual categories:

Fastest: Trym (Night of the Graveless Souls, Live)
Best Double Bass sound: Frost
Best Soloist: Frost
Best Blaster: Abbath (Battles In the North, nuff said)
Heaviest: Horgh
Best Ride: Tjodalv (Antikrist)

In Times Before the Light is a very underrated album... it has a nice melancholic, depressive feel to it.
Whats up with the booklet pix, though... fucking sportcoats or blazers or whatever have no place in metal.

They look like gays or something. Especially Blackheart, smoking a cigarette... "For only 50$ I will be yours for the whole night".

I haven't seen the new booklet, though

No, Inferno is from Poland and Fredrik - Sweden. They all play/played true black, though

I wonder if you've heard Thorns... Hellhammer's amazingly fast on that one!
He's also a better soloist, just listen to Winds or Arcturus.
Abbath blaster?? Horgh I guess ;) But yeah, he's better at that point. Could also be heavier indeed.
But Hellhammer pwns everybody's ass on ride and cymbals man, no way around it.

HELLHAMMER IS GOD!
