Black Thrash is Thrash Metal that bears the influence of the second wave (aka Norwegian) of Black Metal.
By your stupid standards, even Metallica can, at times, be labeled Black Thrash.
No they can't because Metallica never used upside down crosses, pentagrams and satanic lyrics.

And you are wrong. Black Thrash was there long before the second norwegian wave, because the second wave had the black thrash from sodom, kreator, destruction (and sure Slayer) as their main influence. Fenriz from Darkthrone said, that when he saw Slayer Live with Hell Awaits, it was his way to the dark side (figuratively).

Just compare the cover from Desaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wh-HciEZaQ with the original from Kreator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBTgBkQqeOE . There is no fucking evil difference.

Or take this from sodom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KoIxBvUZKE . THAT was Black (Thrash) Metal.

Or this from Destruction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDI2jfNiOOM

Or this from Slayer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKpjCkkVjN0

All you're proving with that display is that thrash rules and BM just copied it which makes this thread even more pointless.
Thank you.

Anyone who thinks black/thrash is just thrash should listen to earlier Desaster, Absu, Rotting Christ.

It involves thrah elements fused with harsh vocals and the tremolo picked leads/arpeggios of black metal bands, oftentimes also including bm-style drumming and keys.

On another note, Venom have always sucked, they are not black metal, and they didn't influence any of the second wave bands.

Venom owns, and Absu fucking sucks, you got it all wrong.
Anyone that calls themselves a Metalhead and talks shit about Venom need to have their teeth fed to them.

Who said they were good?

If you say that "Venom sucks" you're a fucking idiot that doesn't get what Metal is all about. Especially When saying listen to some shit band like Absu in the same breath.
If not for Venom there would be no Bathory, Death, Slayer and consequently the many many bands that have followed.. sure you could say, "well somebody else would have come along and pioneered an whole new approach and attitude towards Metal"... but they didn't; Venom did, and for some wise-ass that was still sucking his mommie's tit when all this was going down to say Venom sucks is a fucking disgrace.

And they were not bad... When I listen them for first time (1983-1984) I thought they sucked, but in these times I was not found of nothing out of classic/true Metal, NWOBHM, and Hard Rock. Few years after, when I get into thrash (1986-1987), and Bathory (1988-89) I get back to old Venom, just to discover a good band that have left a great legacy in metal history.

The thing is nobody, not even Venom themselves will try and say, "yeah, Venom are virtuosi" quite the contrary. But they had the attitude and the energy that were the stepping stones of what was to become Thrash and Black metal. And their music kicks ass... if you are looking for something resembling Darkthrone or Burzum, you will be disappointed, but if you understand that Venom took the attitude and execution of Punk ( the common denominator to Thrash and Black metal BTW) and mixed it up with NWOBHM and a whole new taboo-breaking ideal of Satanic (tongue in cheek, to be sure) imagery, than you understand the greatness of Venom. They were entirely original and if they never came to be (the same argument vis-a-vis Sabbath and Metal applies to Venom and so-called "extreme" Metal) who knows waht we would be listening to.

saying "Venom sucks" is the equivalent of saying "I don't like sex".

Maybe he just meant that they suck as in 'they sound terrible and can't play their instruments'? Venom have a place in Metal history just as St Anger does, but that doesn't mean you have to listen to them when better stuff's around. Mixing punk, NWOBHM and satanica was all they did, no? You could make an argument that Discharge were more of an influence although HNSNSN was a few years after Welcome To Hell... the Why EP was around that time, however.

And you don't like Absu? Why?

Who cares if Venom can't play their instruments?

They still fucking rock harder than most other bands.

Seriously this whole Sodom, Destruction and Slayer is Black Metal / Black Thrash bit is fucking stupid.

The second wave was most probably very influenced by those bands, but there is nothing in common With Burzum, Darkthrone or Mayhem (the big three of the second wave) and Destruction, Slayer and Sodom musically... the riff structures are totally different, the drums are totally different and the vox are totally different.

Is Deicide, Morbid Angel etc. Black / Death Metal?
Or early Motley crue Black / Glam?
No.

The vox in early Sodom or Destruction are not that far from 2nd wave BM, IMO. Nor are they that far from Quorthon's on early Bathory albums. Obviously they are completely different scenes. But just in terms of the way they sound, the vocals are closer to those things than they are to any US Big Four vocalists. To my ears at least.

Now, this is not to say that they are "black/thrash". "Black/thrash" is not a genre; it is just a made up term to mean thrash metal that sounds a bit closer to BM than usual. You're right it probably would be stupid to call them that at the time, but if someone is asking for "blackened thrash" recommendations in the 21st century, I don't see a problem with pointing them towards Destruction, Sodom etc retrospectively.
