I love that the new Metallica is THRASH when Testament's latest is the most awesome thing from the old school since... whenever the last Testament album was out. Like, priorities, people.

Still, listening to new 'tallica now and 'sokay. They really should spike Lars' drink and get someone in who can actually drum, however.

Lars about how supposedly he isn't the greatest but he works for what he does: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=104340

Since when did anyone mock Testament, Zad?

Whoever is saying this is close to the first four, you need to re-listen to the first four. This album is great and all but it's still lightyears away from the 80s.

I hope you're being sarcastic, they're dreadful.

Ok,on reflection,(and with a bit more sleep) they are kinda tacky, but the first two lines were promising! So i guess over all, most folks are not liking the new one!? I'm just not big on the vocals really, more for the likes of HIM's Ville Valo, sexy voice, but i guess i'm commenting in the wrong section for that. Anyone have new and interesting Gothic Metal? Sorry, will take it to the other section! :)

The Day that never comes is one of the best songs they've made.

Yeah, see, I keep trying to give Metallica the benefit of the doubt, and then I read fanboy nonsense like this... nothing on Death Magnetic touches anything from their pre-Black Album days. Apart from the boring bits on Ride The Lightning, maybe.
Boring bits on RTL? That invalidates almost everything I've ever taken from your posts and reviews Zad.

Trapped Under Ice (sorry :P ) and Escape are boring indeed.

Trapped under ice is my fav! on RTL

After hearing two songs now (The Day That Never Comes, Cianide), i must say that i have been plesantly surprised. Both songs are pretty good and basically what i'd expect from Metallica now-a-days. It's pretty much back to the Loads stuff, but with a sprinkle from the black album
Hmmm... most of the other songs go more back to the ride the lightning, master of puppets, kill em all and and justice for all days with a sprinkl of load und black album. http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601197

I went to that link, but the player doesn't work

EDIT: No wait, now its working :dio:

The three songs songs are awesome!
All Nightmare Long
Broken Beat Scarred
The Judas Kiss

All Nightmare Long is a straight up rock song. I thought it should be a single, but then i guess i guess a couple days ago they released Judas Kiss as a single.... come to think of it they are both straight up hard rock songs. All Nightmare long has the most basic solo like what on TBA. Then the second part of the solo kicks in, which is not as basic. Fun song.

Broken, Beat , Scarred is an epic song. The pre-chorus just has this really epic feel to it. The verses too. Its a rally cry to me. The coolest lyrics, "What don't kill you, mkes you more strong"
The tempo change from verse to solo is the coolest thing ever. It just jumps out of nowhere.

The Judas Kiss, another hard rocker. The chorus riff is the closest youre gonna get to 80's thrash riffing. The best part of the song is right between the two solos. The part where James screams" Judas Lives, Recite This Vow, I've Become Your New God Now!".
A Priest tribute? Best line on the album so far.

overall these songs are great. They have more of a hard rock feel than a metal feel to them. But its high octane energetic in your face hard rock. A lot of load in the solos and riffing. the choruses could be TBA and Load. But the heavyness and techniibility of the first four are intact. The solos, the riffs!! :dio:
so far so good....

I don't think that was supposed to be a Judas Priest tribute...

Wait until you hear "That Was Just Your Life." Now that is the thrashyest song on the album. It's also the best in my opinion.

Heh, total rewrite of Blackened, but it's the best song for sure.

Rewrite of Blackened? I'll have to listen for that next time.

St Anger was 'sensitive'?! Newspapers should not review Metal.

Actually, yes it was. In fact, that was a big part of the problem: It was too sensitive:

Oh, I hate it all. Why, why, why me?

Best metal album of the millennium? That's a pretty bold statement.

It wasn't sensitive! Sensitive albums sit you down and stroke your hand, whilst murmuring, 'there, there'. St Anger screams in your face and beats you around the head with a dustbin lid - and not in a good way.

Yes, DM is not the best album of the millenium, sorry folks.

Testament's latest is good but it is really Testament by numbers. Even if i like it quite a lot , there is nothing new or really woahhh with Formation of damnation.

Good album but really, nothing outstanding. After listening to Formation of damnation, I had the urge to listen to their old stuff because too much songs reminded me of older and better songs.

The high point :

- Top notch production
- Chuck's voice
- The return of Skolnick
- Paul Bostaph

The low points :

- Nothing original at all.
- Not enough speed
- Peterson's souless playing

Overall, I was happy with the product because of my long time fan nostalgia and the "fuck, it's Testament" attitude. But If I stay objective, it's pretty average.

didn't you guys expect non-metal zines and papers to eat this shit up like chocolate?

And, not forgetting all the fanboys lining up to get a facial?

This album is good but far from great. Barely 60/100 for me.

Good album but really, nothing outstanding. It was cool to hear some new stuff played live and Chuck was in top form when I saw them. But apart of that, musically speaking, If I stay objective, it's pretty average, in term of "new stuff".

Meh, Testament on form are more Thrashy than their peers. I wasn't expecting a complete reinvention, and yes, there are better bands.

I edited my post to add points. But yes, I give you that, it's more thrashy. But I find more interesting ideas in Death Magnetic.

this is a fair score.

It's far from being the album of year but I'm satisfied with most of it.

It deserves more a score between 70-75, imo
