Cirith Ungol aren't that great. Their first album didn't do much that wasn't being done already, and everything after that was even more completely outdone by the rapidly evolving scene in the 80s. The vocals are terrible though, so along with the tepid music and awful "hooks", it's ideal for fans of Halford, King Diamond, and the more vocally challenged 80's thrash, I guess.

I get that you have a reputation to uphold here by claiming all of these precursor bands to be the greatest shit ever, but jesus christ, we get it, you think Cirith Ungol is the shit. Good for you, you can stop posting in this thread now. Your old school posturing is so fucking tired it's unbelievable...

Stop your fucking whining. You don't have to read my posts. And I could give two flying fucks about what you think. You're opinion to me ranks as one of the lower ones. SO the fact that you are so annoyed by my posts and musical tastes makes me want to push them in your face even more. So get used to it you fucking pansy.

Well, that was a productive exchange.

My two cents, not that anyone gives a shit:

Celtic Frost > Bathory > Cirith Ungol = Venom

I'd say Venom over Bathory; I haven't heard enough Celtic Frost to judge accurately.

man Cirith Ungol is 120% heavy metal and only a few could stand in the same level. Their albums till today purges the plague known as false metal. Screw the nay sayers ! :o

that said Bathory and Celtic Frost are great bands. I wouldnt say whose better between any of them. But Venom is in league with Satan.

Yes you are both right about Cirith Ungol...they are so metal that only a few people can handle them.

its one of my favorite metal songs of all time. The lead in the second solo is brilliant. Cirith Ungol is a smorgasbord of metal. The riffs are killer. Jerry Fogle is probably my favorite guitarist of all time, no one has ever been able to mix metal with old school classic rockin like he has. Plus his solos are full of tasty chops. And Tim Baker is the most maniacal lead vocalist of all time. He sounds like a crazed raven cawing its callous call!! I'm glad not every one likes them, or has even heard of them....it just serves to fuel my elitist ego.

hahaha Cirith Ungol kills posers, and they do exactly that. Tim Baker rules he has his own style.

Just a figure of speech :)

Try Frost And Fire, King Of The Dead and One Foot In Hell. Any of those are great albums to me. I havent heard or found their final album Paradise Lost so cant say anything about it. Is Paradise Lost worth searching for ? If im not mistaken Jerry Fogle committed suicide shortly after One Foot In Hell, partly because he was depressed that the band isnt as successful as he wished it to be i think. It's sad that people till today still blast Cirith Ungol for not being trendy and 'evolving' with the times. They were 100%+ heavy metal till the end and they deserve every respect from metalheads, those that knows what heavy metal is........ oh well different tastes and all that jazz.

I think Jerry Fogle actually died in a car crash. And Paradise Lost is ok...its basically what Iced Earth would sound like if they had good song writing.

Hmmm, all three of these bands are legendary, have numerous classic albums, and even have their fair share of crap! I hold a soft spot for Venom, but not by much over Bathory. Celtic Frost is also brilliant, but I prefer Hellhammer, the band that became Celtic Frost.

My reccommendations:

Venom-start with Black Metal and Welcome to Hell
Bathory-start with the S/T and Under the Sign of the Black Mark, hammerheart is great, but I feel Black Mark is better!
Hellhammer-Apocalyptic Raids
Celtic Frost-To Mega-Therion

Do avoid:

Venom-Ressurection(Modern nonsense with barely any solos?!)
Bathory-Octagon(Terrible Lyrics and boring music)
Celtic Frost-Cold Lake(Hey guys! I have an idea! Let's jump on the Glam Rock bandwagon! It will be a smash success! Ummm, no it's not.)
