At The Gates - Slaughter of The Soul

This is the first time I ever listen to At The Gates and this CD
is wicked. What is Their best CD? I'll certainly purchase Slaughter, but i'm seriously thinking of getting another one too ! I can't believe it took me this much time to check these guys out.

The Red in the Sky is Ours is my favorite, but most adhere to Slaughter of the Sou being their best. Personally, I wish they'd never released it.

Craft - Terror Propaganda.

I agree to an extent with Aaron, because if you ask me, Melodic Death Metal was cooler before it got concise and catchy. Besides, Heartwork, Focus, and Piece of Time were all already out, so technically, SotS really didn't innovate anything. It just gave a MDM a new face. Imagine if Death's discography went like this...

1st album - Scream Bloody Gore
2nd album - Human
3rd album - etc...

I believe evolution of bands and genres is far more lively when they create something that is reconizable on the next album, said album improving upon sound, while still venturing the music to a superior level - No... not superior. Just a new level. Recognizable, but original. Totally revamping a good thing so fast seems... I dunno, like a premature birth.

This is so true. The only thing special about that album is the unbeliavably sterile production.

I wish they'd never released it because of all the fucking bands that immediately decided that they NEEDED to sound EXACTLY like that, and emerged from the woodwork seemingly in the course of a few months. There are probably upwards of 500 bands that basically do nothing but play the same riffs that At the Gates already did. It's fucking stupid and I'm sick of them, all of them. I have my five or so bands that do this, now cut it the fuck out all of you. We don't need 500 clones of one band.

Cathedral - The Garden of Unearthly Delights.

OFC also makes an excellent point, which I nearly forgot to note.
