Too much speed without songwriting or thought = not good.
True. But i don't find Reign in Blood lacking in songwriting or thought.

-3. Some songs, like Raining Blood, Angel of Death and Altar of Sacrifice have good songwriting. Most of them, however, end far too quickly, aren;t developed well and suffer from less than exemplary riffage.
Raining Blood, Piece by Piece, Altar of Sacrifice, Jesus Saves, Reborn, Angel of Death, Criminally Insane, Epidemic and Postmortem are all great. Shit, that leaves Necrophobic as the only throwaway track, haha.
Ehh, to each his own. Reign in Blood is just too short for me, and is overrated compared to the other two insane thrash monsters of 1986: Pleasure to Kill and Darkness Descends. Slayer improved by slowing down and paying more attention to songwriting on the next album.
Pleasure to Kill is EASILY my favourite of all of them, and I did have my "dammit, Slayer suck balls" stage, but I'm over it and they really are good. I've actually learned to play Pleasure to Kill on guitar, and when we get this shitty band going we're covering it. The breakdown riff after the solo, wtf? Best headbanging riff ever? That and the breakdown in Angel of Death are awesome to headbang to.
PS: Dammit my friend best be able to sing, I've never heard him (except doing some Megadeth which he was good at, but that was ages ago and he seemed to be copying Mustaine)
