Megadeth if for nothing else than Ashes in Your Mouth.

Testament comes in second, because they didn't sell out as hard as some or to as poor results as others.

I went with Testament - "The Ritual" followed by Megadeth - "Countdown to Extinction." I love both of these albums.

 for adding the WIC ban option.

I don't really like those albums. I'll pick Countdown, it's the only one that I listen to once a year or so. Hey, you should have put Endorama there as well, many people consider it a sellout album, but I just love it.

CTE is an excellent album. possibly a sell out, i feel more inclined to call it progression than selling out cause the elementsone could call selling out were gradualy coming.
although i wouldn't argue with any one over it being a sellout cause that would really just come down to whether youl iekdthe album or not.

that being said, my choice was ban WIC

In Flames-Clayman

I still give that album a spin from time to time.

The Ritual still gets a spin once a quarter or something.. That automatically gives it more play time than any of the others.. to be honest, I don't own Clayman though.. and want to.. so maybe once I pick it up that would change my mind.

I agree with TIE, i dont see any sellout albums either. I havent heard much In Flames, so i cant comment on that album.
I dont know how you think Anthrax's White Noise or Testament's The Ritual or Sepultura's Chaos AD, Metallica's Black Album and Megadeth's Extinction can be considered sellout albums. Even Slayer for that matter...

Maybe you should re-write this list to include real sellout albums

From what i heard in that list, I wouldn't classify them as "sell out" albums. I would classify an album as "sell out" if it sounds forced/artificial for the reason that they've sucked up to a certain section of the public. Yes, metallica & Megadeth might have sobered down a little and they may have had intentions of selling more copies, but both CTE and the black album are quality metal albums. Metallica still sound like metallica and Megadeth still sound like Megadeth in that. I could still play those albums and say, "Yes, this is Megadeth/metallica." But wouldn't do the same for Risk or the albums that followed the black album. Those sounded forced and artificial. More like the band was doing something different just for the sake of it. Anyway, I like CTE and the black album from that list. Never liked Sound Of White Noise.

I didn't really mean sell-out in the literal sense (hence the fact that it was in quotations). I'm more refering to albums the boisterous "metal elite" deemed sell-outs. Chaos AD and Clayman are definitely NOT sell-outs.

I disagree on the "sell out" title you guys have given Clayman. Reroute to remain in the one i believe is the sellout. In my opinion its like Metallica's Master Puppets, and Opeth's Still Life; their best cd incorporating the best stuff from all their albums into one... Just my opinion though *Braces for impending verbal beating for this message.. lol. Can't convince me out of the fact that Clayman is one of my favorite albums of all time.. maybe even my favorite

Yeah, I also dig Clayman. The only way I could really see it being a "sellout" is that it has fairly high production values for an "underground metal album." But seriously, I can't imagine there are too many Britney Spears or Black Eyed Peas fans that would listen to songs like Pinball Map or Only For The Weak. Besides, already on the previous Colony, the band was starting to shy away from their "melodic death" roots in favor of a slightly more diverse sound (see: the often clean vocals in Ordinary Story). Clayman really just continued where Colony left off except with slick production and a slightly changed "melodic death growl" (ie. one that was a bit more screamy and energetic).

In Flames, still, has always been about the lyrics. And I still to this day have no idea what most of the songs on Clayman\Colony are about. In Flames had some of the best songwriting in metal overall. I like when I have to decipher song meanings and interpretations, not to mention behind verifiable kick-ass leads and vocals. But still, I voted for Chaos A.D. Max's vocals are on even though the sound is really accessible. But Igor's punishing double-bass and that solid production really keep this a favorite of mine (Territory, Refuse-Resist, and of course, Propoganda.)

Actually, Clayman has a special spot in my music-listening schedule because it's one of the few metal albums I own that I can actually play with my friends in the car (most of which are non-metal fans). It just has a sort of coolness/catchiness to it that people like.

I'm sure it comes as no suprise that I voted clayman, although I was tempted by ban WiC. Clayman is my favourite In Flames album, and tied with CoB's Hatebreeder as my favourite album of all time. This and Opeth's Morning Rise are the only 2 metal albums that I can play with my parents around and what is even better is how great those 2 albums are. You all know my opinions on this album from previous threads so I won't bore you with them again.
