I heard them and didn't like them =\

Callenish Circle are like paint-by-numbers melodeath. Not bad, but definitely nothing special.

Better than IF, though. And they've taken the electronics further than the maj. of melodeath, surely?

Having researched the new IF album, I must say it's unworthy of all the hatred people pour on it. Definately better than Soundtrack To Your Escape, and it beats the latest crap from Arch Enemy, The Haunted, Children Of Bodom etc. It is rather mainstream, but not that bad. Doesn't make me want to get into melodeath any more, though.

True. I think my favourite synth and clean vocal heavy melodeath album is Scar Symmetry's Symmetric in Design.

I think it is terrible overall. The first 2 or 3 songs are ok though, but then again, I'm just not that open-minded.

I agree with Danielsan, it deserves around a 88 to 93 mark.

I guess it could be given either a 9 or a 0, but certainly not 90.. if someone tosses out a few cuts of generic melodic death and you say it deserves a 90, then what happens when someone creates something interesting and new? do we give it a million?

have some perspective fan boys

You (reviewers) have trapped yourselves. It's better than STTYE, but if you score it higher than that people will accuse you of fanboyism. Yet if you score it lower, you clearly don't have ears. So which is it to be?

You might not, another will. Face it, if there's a Venom review, there'll be an In Flames one. Especially since it's a major eventan' all.

personally I plan to append a 50/100 to the review, the exact same score that their previous received, to show that they're not doing anything different anymore, just manufacturing tedium and writing it to CD..

(not that I ever liked them anyway)

That's unfair. They deserve at least 51, CC is listenable, after all, whilst STTYE is not.

Seeing In Flames tonight actually. So I'll definitely get an up-close and personal look at the new album. I'll post my thoughts when I get back.

I've only heard the title track so far and thought it was pretty good. More complex than what was on Soundtrack To Your Escape. Not quite Jester Race or Colony, but for what it is, it's certainly not bad.

A 45/100 would be a good score for this album... Not as bad as CoB though!

I like Reroute to Remain... how is this new one compared to it?

Better. Like a mix of Colony and Clayman.

I don't care what anyone says, Reroute To Remain, Soundtrack To Your Escape and Come Clarity are three excellent albums, but calling them melodic death metal is a stretch, and of course, they won't stack up. But listening to them as they are, in context of what they are and what the band is now (which is all you can do, otherwise nothing will please you), then they're great albums. This new album deserves a very high score because FOR WHAT IT IS, it's great! Great songs from start to finish.
