The problem with is that they are selling it as a "return to roots", which it clearly isn't. They should just come out of their closets and admit to themselves that they are mallcore as fuck and just go full out trend already.
They're not mallcore, you turd. And I don't think I've seen them selling it as anything, definitely not a return to roots. Fans have said that. Big difference.
Well wtf is your interpretation of mallcore? Take a look at their video for "Touch of Red", asshole.
I called you a turd, that is clearly a silly term, thus a joke, don't start insulting me or I will make you commit suicide with my wit and sarcasm alone.
Mallcore describes 12-17 year old Hot Topic fans, it's not a musical term. Too many people are calling bands certain things based on their fucking fans and that is stupid. In Flames are not the same anymore. They haven't been since Clayman and that change first planted it's seeds on Whoracle. The band has evolved over time, but with this album it sits quite well next to Clayman so they have actually gone BACK to an earlier, heavier style. This is true and evident in the music here. Their music would have went in this direction regardless of the metalcore media explosion, you could see it happening long before metalcore was even a genre.
Yes, their video for "Touch Of Red" is ridiculous, but it's a video that they didn't write or direct or pay for. Likely, as with most bands, they had NO say. Even if it was their idea, guess what? It was a good fucking idea because this band is THEIR FUCKING JOB and unfortunately bands need to placate their fans, and a majority of those fans just happen to be of the mallcore breed. Not every band wishes to stay underground their whole life. Some bands actually want to make money.
Devin Townsend did commercials for fucking MTV!! Is he a sell out? No fucking way! He needed money. It happens! Devin Townsend used to fucking work at A&W, a fast food chain like Burger King, just a few years ago to make ends meet! Dan Swano just reopened his home studio to make money because he didn't want to have to go back and work at the fucking music store again! Should every band go poor to please a bunch of whiny, selfish fans?? Fuck no.
In Flames are a great band still, they're just different. You don't like it, fine. Listen to their old shit then. I hate Britney Spears and don't like her music one bit, but at least I can admit that the bitch has released a ton of good songs for what they are.
