Both bands are recognized as two of the more brutal thrash bands in the music. But which band is superior in terms of quality of their early output? To make things fair the only albums for consideration for Kreator are their first four, as the band has outlasted Dark Angel. Does Pleasure to Kill trump Darkness descends, and can Dark Angel's latter output compare to the first two Kreator albums?

For collective quality, I definitely give the nod to Kreator. The band's early releases are thrash metal distilled in its purest, most aggressive form. The raw chaos of Pleasure to Kill is rightly held as a classic and Terrible Certainty coupled with Extreme Aggression represent the band at the peak of its powers. Very few bands in metal, forget thrash, can best Kreator's output from this period. Dark Angel obviously have the classic Darkness Descends and Time Does Not Heal is a solid album but Leave Scars was bit of a letdown for me. Ron Rinehart's vocals move from passable to downright annoying, especially on Death of Innocence.

This. Dark Angel is a flash in the pan, compared to Kreator's more consistent output.

Kreator. Easy.

Nobody ever talks about We Have Arrived though, very underrated.

I wish I had a counterargument especially as good as Darkness descends, but Kreator's work is too strong and the quality of their early albums is just too savage and they have too many standout tracks for Dark Angel to compete with. But oh well.

No surprise Kreator owned this match-up. But how about Dark Angel vs the tech thrash mastery of Coroner?

That said, I do like Dark Angel.

That's a tough one, but I think I'll go with DA just because of how awesome and brutal Darkness Descends is.

I'd go with Coroner by a slight. Dark Angel's Darkness descends is arguably superior to any of Coroner's best albums, but the latter Dark Angel albums aren't as good as Darkness descends, they're overlong, and Coroner are superior musicians.

Kreator obliterate Dark Angel. I'll take the controlled frenzy of Coroner over Dark Angel anyday as well.

Both great but Darkness Descends wins.
