Looking for symphonic death metal like Septicflesh. Any ideas?

The obvious suggestion would be Moonspell. Check out Night Eternal.

Fleshgod Apocalypse is solid as well. Their first album Oracle is fucking sick.

I'd also recommend Hollenthon's Domus Mundi, which has a bit more of a folk vibe rather than the epic vibe that Septicflesh puts off, but great symphonic metal regardless.

Therion also comes to mind but I don't know shit about them.

Yeah, Moonspell aren't close to DM. More like Gothic extreme Metal with an edge. Therion's Lemuria has some DM vocals but that's about it. Hollenthon would be something you would want to pursue (especially their last full-length album) and the obvious mention of Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Speticflesh is very unique. They're one of the few bands that use an actual symphony and a man educated in Classical music (although there are quite a few musicians in that arena). There are bands that use BM vocalization like Opera IX to create atmosphere (alongside with the keyboards) but the growls aren't really present.

Hollenthon's last one was their weakest album.

Just checked the Archives. I had totally forgotten that Hollenthon released an album after "With Vilest of Worms to Dwell." I was obviously talking about the aforementioned album. Yeah I wasn't in fond of their last one, either (on first impression that was).

Then totally agree with you, but personal preference is Mundi over Worms, and we can all agree that Opus Magnum was good but not great and the others overshadow it.

Indeed. Mvndi had a different atmosphere. I might look back into Opus Magnum. There might be a reason they called it that.

Karma looks grim on the Archives.
