Another Damnation with Watershed influences, that's how I see it.
Didn't like it at all at the first, second and third listen, maybe the 'click' would come, but i doubt it.

I think I'll skip this one...

More like a calmer Ghost Reveries for me.

Loved Damnation, hating Heritage so far. It's a good idea, but poorly executed, sounding like Camel with some eerie-sounding keys over it. When I first listened to it in the car last weekend my attention was kept for the first three or four songs, but after that I completely forgot I actually had music on - something that's never happened before.

I certainly think the first half of the album is stronger than the second.

Come on, I can't be alone in thinking this sucks?

My brother's a massive Opeth fan and loves Damnation but he doesn't like Heritage.

EDIT: Also shouldn't this be in the True Metal Warriors or Frey Zone as it's no longer got any Death elements in it? :P

God damnit. I almost feel like people enjoy it just because it is Opeth and you're supposed to enjoy everything they do, because I don't see (hear?) the appeal at all.

I like progressive rock and this is a good retro-progressive rock album. I think you'll see that most metalheads who like it also enjoy 70s progressive rock.

I like 70s prog rock too and I think this Opeth album is enjoyable for what it is, Tompa. Would definitely rather listen to Damnation though.

Why don't we talk about Peter Lindgren missing in the formula? Heritage is a nice album, Michael takes risks and hits notes with his vocals he hadn't before, (c.f. famine 4:25). But Ever Since Peter left Opeth, something happened inevitably, and the drums, as good as they are, can't reach Lopez level. Let's face it, the band we fell in love with is no more  it's like you had a girlfriend and she shows up three years after with fake boobs  you like it or you don't, but it just ain't the same girl.

Only a very casual Opeth listener here.

It sounds ok if you like 70's prog.

For the most part it doesn't sound like Opeth at all.

Totally disagree. The metal is toned down and the production is retro, but a lot of the riffs and melodies scream Opeth.

I just listened through the first 9 songs, and haven't got pyre or face in the snow off the dvd yet, but so far i'm not liking it.

It sounds like a bad version of damnation, and i loved damnation.

It still sounds like opeth... but in the same way that god of war song did...

The lyrics are also terrible to me, and i keep focusing on the fact previous cool lines are kinda being used in the new songs, in the same way... I just feel they seem to reusing sounds for this album.

It was far worse than i was expecting.
Its still an ok album, but not the kinda quality I was expecting from Opeth...

Muse did the same with The Resistance (horrible), Lacuna Coil with Sallow Life (Terriible), And slipknot with... whatever they released (didn't care by that point anyway)

The album seems to be doing alright ratings wise in places - but actual reviews from any source i'd claim has heard previous albums all seem to find it a miss.

Lets just hope this is a one time.
