While most purists actively deride Svencho and crew's inclusion of metalcore and melodic death metal elements into newer Aborted's sound, Engineering the dead is usually seen as the band's best album. Though listening to "To roast and grind" reveals a somewhat more acrobatic version of death/grind, what do you think of the band's older material, or do you think the album just sucks entirely?

I used to have this album. It was an ok listen to but it just didn't grab me as much as later Aborted.

I think it's the Groove Metal whore in me that prefers the more groovier later stuff than the more straight DM/grind of the earlier stuff.

From a pure DM/Grind perspective, I think Engineering the Dead is good but that sound just doesn't appeal as much to me.

Engineering the Dead is good but nothing remarkable. Goremageddon is where these fellow countrymen hit their stride.
