There's something wrong with the production on Anthems. I think it's the major thing that keeps me from really liking it...I can't describe what's wrong with it but it just sounds bad. I don't think it's overproduced, they just did a poor job.

I dunno.

I still don't agree with you, but you present some very good reasons so I can see your side of the point. It is obvious that your argument was logically made and well-thought-out.

I'm glad we resolved that. Now go listen to Wrath of the Tyrant and you'll understand why we are lucky with Anthems the way it is.

Emperor got worse when the production improved, because it let you hear just how dreadful Ihsahn's shrieks are. Anyways, the first two albums are genuinely like moving through a forest, hearing mighty armies pass nearby... the other two are almost a different band.

As in Nightside and Anthems? I don't get what is so wrong about Ihsahn's shrieks; I like them. It's a tradeoff, though, since the guitars became more audible which are oh so awesome.

On a side note, is that him doing clean vocals in the song Unhealer or is it Akerfeldt?

I think it's both; Akky at first and then him. Not certain, though.

Indeed. Plus everything in that album is completely audible, including the bass which is rare in metal.

I agree. I get annoyed by albums that have amazing scores but sound like they were recorded in a portapotty or something.

I prefer a good production. I can do without most of the time, but when it comes to super shite production I just can't do it.

Yes they are different. IX is like the hard brutal ice cold battle of warriors against or with these armies and Prometheus is like the sequel, climax and dead after the battle in the wordless chamber....

Is it so hard to accept, when a band develops to a different level? And i'ts not so, that on IX Equilibrium or Prometheus they are playing something completely different like country rock or so. It's just a different Black Metal style. It's comparable to Satyricon, because between Nemesis and Age of Nero are also worlds. Or compare Darkthrones Transilvanian Hunger with Plaguewielder.
