Try the very early stuff if you like melodeath generally, but otherwise no.

If you've only listened to it once or twice then I'd suggest listening to it a couple more times 'cause I've found that their albums all suck the first 3-4 times you listen to them. >.>

I wouldn't. I don't think you'd enjoy anything they've done. I wouldn't say Damage Done is the be all end all DT album, but it should give a good gist of what the band is about.

I personally just think they're alright. I have several of their albums. Talented group but they don't really trip my trigger entirely.

I would say to give them a shot, because they seem to move in phases as far as the sounds of albums go. They all sound like Dark Tranquility, but there are certainly differences. I find myself listening to Skydancer through The Minds I the most. Although Skydancer sounds quite a bit different from both The Gallery and Minds I. The production and vocals are kinda balls, but if you can get past that there's some good music to be had. I dunno, in general I would say try them out.

Not like Scar Symmetry?

I don't want an argument. I just find that bizarre. It's like prefering Diet Coke to regular.

I'd check out The Gallery. I think they sound completly different on it.

I would. I like about all their other albums and find Damage Done to be largely boring and uninspired.

:omfg: IMO all DT albums kick much ass, but I'm quite the fanboy since I love everything from Skydancer through Fiction.

DT is one of my all time fav bands, I loved all their albums from Projector onwards, didn't really listen to the older stuff much but gave it a few spins. I think Character is one of their best as well as Projector.

Definitely, My Negation from Character is one of their best songs, IMO.

^^^ I also loved Haven, I played that album over and over again but I know most of the fans didn't really did that album though I'm a bit weird when it comes to new albums, I loved the new albums of In Flames, Soilwork, Nightwish and plenty of other bands that most of the regular fans hated because it was different from the bands original sound.

Scar Symmetry is worlds above DT in my book, and outside of the fact they're in the same genre don't share any other similarities.

I don't see the deal with scar symmetry at all... One of their guitarists is pretty fucking awesome though.

Where is a good place to start with DT?

Damage Done

And Scar Symmetry is a killer band but they can't hold a candle to DT, SS will never make anything nearly as good as The Gallery.

Agreed they are WORLDS apart in sound and song writing even. I've been listening to Scar Symmetry on loop for 3 weeks now. I love the band but DT is DT man, they are amazing at the stuff they do.

I honestly can't say one is better than the other. I think they are all good at what they are doing.

damaged done is sort of a grower... but it doesnt compare to the gallery, the minds I, or even character.
