This is my first Overkill record. Bought it a good while ago but haven't listened to it before recently. I've heard that this is the black sheep of the Overkill discography. What do you think?

I think we have enough "Hit or miss?" polls.

Eh, I'm kind of apathetic towards the album. It doesn't suck, but it's kind of boring at the same time. It's competently done, but it's just typical post-Black Album plodding nonsense. Overkill would later successfully mix that style in with Thrash on later albums, but here it's rather uninteresting. I'd rather listen to any other Overkill album, even RELIXIV, over this one.

Any of the first 5 would work, though I would move from the start forward if you can, like so:

Feel the Fire
Taking Over
Under the Influence
The Years of Decay
Horrorscope

They're all awesome in my opinion.

As for I Hear Black, I never much cared for it for pretty much the same reasons as EI. Add in the fact that it followed directly after the first 5, and it's hard to consider it anything but a miss.

Yep, just a completely boring album, and their second worst after RelixIV. Start with Years of Decay or Horrorscope.

Hit or Miss threads are the same as "Should I buy it?" so no, I'd say these threads are fine and should keep on rolling.

Miss, kinda boring album, some good songs on it (Weight of the World, Spiritual Void, Dreaming in columbian) but the rest of it is pretty uninspired.

----------------
Now playing: Grand Magus - Black hole
via FoxyTunes

Certainly take Adam's advice and check out any of the first 5 albums. Each one is a classic album in it's own right. For the newer stuff, I recommend Bloodletting, Killbox 13, or Immortalis as great starting points.
