Songs have gotten lean and mean. No wasted riffs or musical notes when in the past there was a lot of filler and all-around boring shit going on in a song.

Yeah, we all know old Kreator, Overkill, Maiden or Mercyful Fate were all filler and boring shit. You must be living in some alternative universe.

Not what I'm saying. I think someone would basically have to be a producer to get what i'm saying. Music is much denser now and much less repetitive and bears much better with repeat listens. Maybe that is just me.

Its a very strict timing thing. Back in the 80's they would hold a riff in the pocket for a good 20 seconds, now, they wouldn't without changing tempo or key or something.

If I produce a dirty middle finger from the pocket of my very 80s jeans will you shut the fuck up?

I realize this is in the Thrash Folder, but I'm talking about the big picture. And lest we forget. Heavy metal was popular in the 80's and a lot more underground today. Not everyone listens to everything and opinions are going to vary a great deal.

I actually have no idea what you're saying. You went from there were only three good bands in each genre in the 80s to music then was less dense and more repetitive. I have no idea how you reached these conclusions. I mean, thrash as a genre is pretty much based around constant riff changes; I mean, yes, a lot of early heavy metal bands took the intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/solo/chorus root, but many didn't (see Priest's Tyrant, Genocide, Call For the Priest, hell, even some early Helloween) and in any case, a band who breaks out of that same structure these days is still the exception, rather than the rule. Things are probably different in black metal, though, which I don't listen to.

But still.. whats your point?

Music is better now than it has ever been, simply put.

Besides from the enormous general fallacy of the statement, I can't believe that you just said that in a Thrash discussion
