Can anyone translate what those German guys were saying in the background? I'm pretty sure they were saying it sucked.

Those verses sounded so much like Ritual-era Testament that I seriously thought I was listening to Electric Crown for a minute (not that that's a bad thing, btw).

I know that since it's post-St. Anger Metallica, everybody's going to be quick to rip this song apart. As for me, though, I think it's pretty decent. Very nice and heavy opening riff, some good double bass work, and a good (if not spectacular) solo in the middle.

On the downside, the main riff is like an improved version of your average St. Anger riff. It would really benefit from some power chords and a less punk/hardcore-ish sound. The song is also too long. And I mean long as in convoluted (much like St. Anger was).

So overall, I'd give it about a 75/100. Understand that this is only a demo. If Metallica's smart, they'll clip the final song in half and revamp that main riff so that it sounds a little less St. Anger-ish (ie. it's actually somewhat catchy). As for James's vocals, meh. Rock/Metal vocalists always sound worse live than in studio.

Bah, it's awful, and that isn't St. Anger speaking.

This song is just bad. Metallica is forever doomed to being completely lame beyond all preconceived notions of lame, they've lost it and they will never get it back. This song is like some kind of unholy marriage of their last 15 years of stylistic changes and the kind of shoddy awkward crap that a few high school kids might put together before realizing that music isn't for them.

Whatever floats your boat man. It's an improvement, but that riff is about as boring as they come.

I see. sarcasm. Well, the fact that the song has a solo in it is an improvement. The riff is semi-coherent, unlike St. Anger, and that's about it.

Semi-coherency is what made black metal so special.

I'm not even sure that's a word.

Alright then, put semi-coherency in the books. Also put "bumbalayeha"
in the books. It is the name of the act of squeezing two boobs into one and licking them altogether.

I agree with most posts here, this is utterly and completely garbage. Ok if Metallica released one really lousy album like St Anger and then realized that they were finished for good, but this is just like digging their own grave and putting barbed-wire in it, then jumping into it with a match and gasoline to let them self on fire... Hmm, got me thinking of Fuel for a moment there. It's hard to believe this is the same band that did that song.
