None So Vile has to be a contender. Also Blessed Are the Sick, Human, and Atheist - Unquestionable Presence (if you're being a tad adventurous). Seven Churches for the not just the historical, but the great riffing value, unless you want to be a fruit about it and insist they don't count since Death Metal has changed so much since then.

Zyklon's World ov Worms is also a personal favorite of mine, as is Decapitated's Winds of Creation. And I still think Lykathea Aflame's Elvenefris is perfection. Though not so many may agree.

I agree with Elvenefris. Not the best but really high up there with the best.

Lykathea Aflame should be a death grind band, purely (Their grindy parts are awesome...), and forget the tech-prog half of their music... it ruins everything. Until they do that, they'll never be anything more than a flava-of-the-month prog act. As far as I'm concerned, they have no business being mentioned in the presence of the Death elite. Fuck all diluted shit.

I like Lykathea Aflame a lot but the snare drum sounds odd and is way too loud. Their drummer sounds like he would suit a band like Dillinger Escape Plan or Psyopus a lot better than a death metal band.

How do you figure? I'd say he's not radically different from say Flo Mounier, does he belong in a spazcore band too?

I agree that he has a bit of a weird drum sound, but I think he suits the band very well.
