I'm struggling to find music in here. Now I know that Nachtmystium has never been about great production, or black metal in general for that matter. But this time they're really making it hard for me to even discover any music. The vocals are drowned into the mix, the guitars are just light and fuzzy and also blend in with the rest. The only thing really standing out are the drums (not in a good way), because they produce the most bass of all. When compared to recent releases (Demise, Eulogy IV) this production is just a large step back, think demo style. Now for some this may very well be a plus, and I must admit it does sound good at times, but the music of Nachtmystium requires a decent production to be remotely interesting, and this record proves it.
Songs like "A Seed For Suffering" and "Chosen By No One" are pretty ok, and the first even includes an acoustic guitar part. But a track like "Keep Them Open" and many others, are just dull chaotic monotone tracks with no real interesting parts.
Overall I think this CD could probably go either way. Some people will hail it for it's lack of production, and it's worship of old times. Others will hate it for the fact that it's production just isn't up to par, and the songs are rather dull written. None of the tracks really stand out, there is no second "The Glorious Moment" or "My Vengeance" or "Cold Tormentor (I've Become)" to be found here.
Before buying this, do listen to some mp3's.
Don't fall for the hype, I'm definitely not buying this.
