Although i would give this album 60/100, it's a miss cos after all the hype it was getting, it was rather disappointing. Sepultura never did anything much for me anyway. I like a few tracks by them, but wouldn't pick up a complete album of theirs. Oh yeah, have seen an album of theirs called Schizopheria or something in stores. How come people don't talk much about that album? Haven't listened to it. Just curious as to what others think of that album.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but i was just browsing when i came across this. As i have commented on Chaos AD and Arise, it's only natural that i comment on Roots as well.

I'll start by saying i am the 5th person to vote... HIT

If Chaos AD brought Sepultura to the mainstream, Roots made them superstars (too bad it was all downhill from there). I still spin this album now and then, with Roots Bloody Roots being one of my all time favourite metal songs. I can still remember the date i bought this album, back in '96.

There are a few average tracks that i skip (mainly the instrumentals
), but there are so many killer tracks including Dusted, Endangered Species, Straight-Hate & Attitiude

Roots, for me, is my 2nd favourite Sep's album, behind Arise

I voted hit, for me the only Nu metal album worth listening to and much better the Chaos AD. But still does not compare to Schizoprenia, Beneath the Reamins and Arise. I can't rate this ablum down because with out it i would still be listen to the same shit i was 6 years ago; helped me get into old sep and ultimately 'real' metal.

you should buy it, i think it sounds like early slayer but faster, not sure what other people think of it but without doubt one of seps best 3.

Its the only one of the first four I haven't heard. More like Morbid Visions or Beneath the Remains?

Same here, actually. But I liked what I did hear enough to vote Hit. Didn't notice this first time around...

Musicly, its the missing link between MV and BTR, the heavyness is somewhere between the two. But the production on each album give them all very different and distinct sounds. I would say the 'feel' of Schizopheria reminds me a lot of Show No Mercy, the production values are very similar to my ears. But you should check this out if you like BTR, and Arise, its much more along those lines with the vocal delivery of MV.

I'll buy it eventually. I bought MV and Arise at the same time for a fiver each and saw Schizophrenia for the same price a few weeks later but refrained from buying it because I hadn't absorbed the other two yet.

In retrospect it wasn't the smartest move, but Sep are one of those bands who you never wait very long on the local record shop getting in cheap second hands of their older stuff.

I got the remastered version of it, I like it. The production I think is nothing special but it's still good thrash with harsher vocals. And on the remastered version you get them re-doing Troops of Doom, which I must say sounds incredible.
