There is a little more than one month to the release of Gamma Ray's release of Land of the Free II, but there is hardly nothing more than the cover art and the songtitles that we've heard so far. How do you think the new album is going to turn out? Will it be a lackluster copy of the original LOTF or will it be a fresh sounding new record? Rhapsody's Symphony of the enhanched lands is by many people considered their best album and they decided to make a second part of it. Hopefully GR will be more successful with their sequel. Wonder if there are any guest vocalists? Michael Kiske and Hansi Kurch where doing guest appereances for the first album and it would be nice to see some nice guest vocalists also turn up on this album. I think GR could also sound really cool if they would record an album with symphonic orchester, that would really be something intresting in the hands of Kai Hansen.

Kai has never disappointed me. This album will be awesome in all aspects. I can't wait.

I'm hoping the music will be as awesome as the cover art...

Hmmm... this guys review makes me want to get it even more. Catchier, borrowing from the old to make it new, this will be good.

3.5/7 stars is not that good. I am sorry, but unfortunately their albums haven gotten worse and worse after the magnificant Powerplant. This album is uninspired indeed and even though it borrows melodies and riffs from great songs it does not even make the songs great themselves! Kai has never sounded this weak, I would say that he even sounded better on the debut Helloween album in 1984. The only kickass song that keeps the traditionally high Gamma Ray measure is the majestic 11 minute long Insurrection.

There's a more positive review http://www.powermetal.dk/ looks like this album isn't going to please everyone.

Same. Majestic is an awesome album and it got some pretty mixed reviews.

Not happy to hear that half the album is made from self plagiarism and the good old fashioned non-self plagiarism.

Speaking of "loans".. Have you seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnvmGvY-Qsw

It's pretty funny, some of them are a bit far fetched but it's a good watch anyway. I'm not too bothered by it myself.

Wow... I've been feeling the similarities with Maiden during my latest spins of Gamma Ray's LotF2 album but I never actually tried to identify the songs. But yeah, some of the video's examples might be a bit stretched but they do sound so similar! Especially the Maiden comparisons! That video was a nice find, thanks Tompa!

Man, that Out of the Shadows-ripoff was especially evident... Surprising they'd borrow from such a recent Maiden album.

There's a couple of Judas Priest homages on No World Order as well...Solid is an obvious tribute to Rapid Fire and the second verse of New World Order is straight out of Invader.

Please, none of that shit sounded the same. Except "No World Order" and "I Want Out," but even that's a stretch. Actually, "When The World" sounds a lot like "BYOB" by System of a Down.

Anyway, just picked this one up today. Listened once. Seems like a great album. Even Kai seems to be singing better. Musically it seems like what Helloween is doing now.

Hey c'moon I want out and No World order had the least resemblence, while the maiden stuff was 100% plagarism! Kai has never been a good singer, but he has not sounded this bad since he sang on Walls of Jericho in 1984. The album is a total failure for a band like gamma ray.

30/100

Wait, hold on, are you guys denying Opportunity lifts, note-for-note, the "and by the light of the moon" part from Rime of the Ancient Mariner? Or that one song (forget which, rats) has the exact_same opening drum pattern as Flash of the Blade?

No, but for the most part this album is awesome.
