Post subject: | Should Rob Halford retire? |
Rob Halford is often known as the metalgod, but do you still think he is one? I think the best before date on this man has expired long ago. Just look at some new clips with JP with Rob from last year. Rob's voice has declined and he lacks any charisma, stands still and has no eyecontact with the public. Just take a look from these two performances. In 1985 we have a young Rob that sounds great and has great selfconfidence and a lot of charisma. Do you prefer Rob Halford or Tim Owen? I think in this state Tim is definately much better shape than Rob and would have prefered him instead of Rob, especially if I would have to go and see them live. Tim's badass style suits JP perfectly and he is young, energetic and is one of the most underrated singers of all time. I even found the two albums with Tim to be better than their newest effort. |

I don't know about that, Jugulator is an awesome album, but Angel of Retribution is a million times better than Demolition. I don't think Rob should retire though, I'd still give my left nut to see the classic Priest line-up live at least once before I die. I'll still take a worn-out Rob over any number of overrated Power Metal vocalists any day of the week. |

Topic title and poll question aren't nearly consistent enough. ![]() |

Hell no! He is a legend and he should keep singing until he simply can't sing anymore. I'd also take him over any other faggot (lol irony) pm vocalists. |

No No and NO. Halford still has a lot in him. Agreed, he may not be able to hit those high notes, but the guy is 55 years old and age does make your body give way. Yes, Ripper Owens is an awesome vocalist and he is the only one I have heard who can match The Halford Scream. But he has simply not been able to create the kind of impact Rob has. And yes, Rob is still the Metal God. I bet the other legendary vocalists like Bruce Dickinson, Dio and King Diamond will eventually see a dip in their vocal execution (if they already haven't) over a period of time. Bruce is 49, Dio most probably 65 and The King is 51. But that would not take away the legacy they would leave behind by the time they retire. |

Halford will never quit. He is one of my all time favourite singers. And as everyone else has said he can't retire until I see them with him live. And bringing up Priest and Halford now I can't wait for the new album because new album means new tour. |

When I saw him live in Montreal two years ago, he was completely fucking awesome. No, he's not where he was 20 years ago, but he still rules on the album and live. Thats what matters. And he IS the Metal God. |

No..! Just because he was a better singer and performer twenty years ago doesn't mean he's bad at it now. Yeah his high notes doesn't sound as clean as they used to, but his low and middle register is better than ever in my opinion. I saw him and priest live back in 2004 and while I wish Halford had the charisma and energy on stage of the old days he still is an icon and impressive to look at. I'd like him to stop relying on teleprompters though, it really locks him still on stage and makes him crouch over while singing for easy reading. I'd rather have him sing a few mistakes than not seeing him move. But yeah, he should go on as long as he wants to, people forget he's a great allround singer, not just a screamer (which I'd say Ripper is, that's the only point where he really shines). |

And I voted no to the question in thread topic, not the poll question. Those are two VERY different things. Halford should NOT retire, but he definitely has his best days behind him. |

Do you mean like in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hpUx05hyHY oh, and I don't think he should retire, for all reasons listed already. |

I don't think he should retire. He still sounds great in those newer videos, although he does look fucking retarded crouched over like that... |

I think Rob has singed Painkiller on every tour JP has made after 1991, probably hunders of times, and still he literally looks down at the teleprompter to see every word he is supposed to sing to make sure he doesn't sing a single word wrong. I could understand somewhat relying on a teleprompter for a new song he has never singed live before, but for this old classic its not. I first thought it was some kind of health issue that he was crounched like that all time. It really looks like some old grandfather that has difficulties to walk on his own... |

Agreed! I saw him live in Edmonton. He completely nailed one of his patented screams in Painkiller. Everyone in the audience was covering their ears from the sheer power. It was awesome! |

No but I don't think Priest's last cd was as good as Halford's solo efforts. |

I'd say it's better than Crucible, but not as good as Resurrection. I like 'em all though, Crucible is pretty good, AoR is very good and Resurrection is fucking awesome. Resurrection is the last studio album by Rob with flawless high notes, I find Crucible and AoR both inferior in that regard. Sorry, kinda went off topic, sort of. |
