Post subject:  Evergrey's new bass player

Our new bass-players name is Jari Kainulainen!

Some of you might know him as a former member of Stratovarius and we are extremely happy to have him in the band as we know he will improve our sound in a great way which he already proved when we rehearsed together.

Me and Henrik talked after the rehearsal and both said we had goosebumps and this coming from a a guy playing bass. Before it’s always been like - hey whatever it’s only bass - but now we really feel that Jari will bring our sound up to a new level .

We got along great and it of course also helps a lot that Jari is a very experienced player when it comes to playing live with his several world tours together with Stratovarius as proof.

This was one of the main things we were looking for in a bass-player except for the playing of course, so that we wouldn’t end up with a person who after 100 gigs finds out that this was not what he was meant for, cause this is, wether you believe so or not, a very weird and demanding life that let’s you experience the greatest things in the world as well as the sickest, most draining moments of utter insecurity - that of course immediately vanishes as soon as we get to play for you guys!

We are so much looking forward to the coming months of recording and playing and it honestly feels like a fresh start and an injection I think we needed.

What can I say? When I heard that Evergrey was searching for a new bass player, I immediately contacted Tom to let him know that I was extremely interested!

Then they asked me to come and audition for them. I can’t even start to explain how nervous I was!

But everything just matched, and sounded great! And before we knew it we were all shit faced and celebrating the Scandinavian way! See you on the gigs!

Shit I'm actually surprised. I didn't expect this in the least. Jari seemed to drop below the radar after him splitting with Stratovarius. Good to hear he joined Evergrey.

I didn't know he left Stratovarius. Now let's hope they will make the new album in the style of " In search of Truth".

He left shortly after the release of the self-titled. That album was to many a major disappointment so I guess that was the reason for his departure. He's been absent from the metal scene since then. Lauri Porra from Kotipelto, Warmen and Sinergy took over bass duties.

As for another In Search Of Truth.... Jari joining Evergrey won't have anything to do with it if they actually succeed, although I'm hoping for another Recreation Day. As I understand it most of the music for the forthcoming album is already written and they should start recordings soon. From Tom's description and I quote:"Is it heavier, darker, more progressive, more commercial, less commercial are there more guitar solos from Henrik and Tom, blastbeats from Jonas and blistering piano-playing from Rikard????? Yes …. but then again ….no … : )"...

...he doesn't say much. :)

I'm kinda worried about the next album since Tom admitted that they dumbed down Monday Morning Apocalypse in order to gain commercial success. I would never have guessed back then that a band who released intelligent and soulful albums such as Solitude Dominance Tragedy and In Search Of Truth would walk down that path.

How well did Monday Morning Apocalypse sell? I remember it got great reviews when it was released and how everyone was saying that this would be their commercial breakthrough (their DVD had reached #1 in Sweden not long before), even the band said so to some extent!

But then I didn't hear anything more about it, except that many fans seem to dislike it, me included. I haven't heard anything from it on the radio and I haven't seen any video on TV (even though I remember seeing The Masterplan/Blinded/A Touch of Blessing several times).

This band had a great trademark sound and was doing better and better commercially for every release by just doing their thing. I hope MMA was a one-time mistake and that they don't go down that path again, but my gut feeling is telling me the next album will be more of the same.

We'll see though.

Oh yeah the bassplayer. I dunno, I haven't seen him perform and I don't listen to Stratovarius. I hope he's good on stage, because their old bassplayer certainly rocked.

About their success, at least in Sweden they did have some kind of breakthrough. The title track was played on a regular basis on the mainstreamrock channel bandit, and they even did a live unplugged perfomance in their studio, along with an interview. I dunno but I have a feeling this next album might gain them a lot of radioplay here in Sweden.
