This album pretty much set the standard for power metal in the 80's as every cliche exploited by bands from Metallica to Helloween are featured here in their naive original form, before they got watered down to no end by the aforementioned bands. Its heavy, it has engery, it has hooks, great leads, killer twin guitar solos, thrashing, great lyrics...you name it. To me it is one of the rare flawless heavy metal records and deserves the recognition that has eluded it for so long.

I agree totally. I'll add that to my short list of older albums to review.

Not to name anybody, but some people were trying to convince me that Satan was a second rate band, because they didnt sell as many albums as Metallica. Whoopty Frickin' doo!!

BAhhhh!!! If anyone tries to justify one band is better than the other based on album sales, then they lose all credibilty!!

Have you head the latest Blitzkrieg album, Absolute Power? Nice to see Brian Ross still making some good metal. It doesn't top Court in the Act, but it's certainly money well spent.

Break Free may rock pretty hard, but it's not the best song ever written. Trial by Fire easily takes that spot, thank you.

Hmmm...Break Free is better than Trial by fire because its heavier....and it has the greatest solo section of all time. So heavy + great chorus+ great solo = better than your opininon. HA HA...but Trial by Fire is an amazing song and you should continue to think that its the best.

Break Free's solo is wonderful. But I just like Trial by Fire's riffs more. But, to turn it around, you should continue to think Break Free is the best.

I like this album a lot but I think Holy_Terror raves about it too much. No accounting for taste and all that.

Neither have I  Though I must advice you to listen to all of his raving, because actually he has yet to advise a bad band that does not own the shit out of its popular mirrorreflection.

How can I get a hold of this without paying $55 off ebay for it? Ugh!

I'm going to have to agree. Both are my favourite songs off the album, but that middle part in Trial by Fire" is just incredible. Glad this is finally getting a classic review.

I can send you mp3's if you want. You'll be hard pressed to find a copy of it anywhere, as far as I can tell. Though if you get the opportunity to at any time, don't think, just buy it.

froosch64 on AIM or froosch64@hotmail.com on MSN. Either one works, but I'm on AIM a little more often.

Into the Future and Suspended sentence are great, but something's missing on them...possibly Brian Ross, and the style changes. Its still undeniably Satan, but its not as much NWOBHM. Its more of a slow type of thrash metal. They are still really awesome, but due to the supreme awesomeness of the first album I think it'd be very hard for them to surpass it...they kind of screwed themselves by releasing one of the greatest albums ever ...first.

I got ahold of Trial By Fire, since you guys are fanatical over here, but it really seems like you guys are overstating the band's music and influence. They are on the meaner side of NWOBHM, but not so far removed from what was around at the time as to be considered solely responsible for Thrash and Power Metal. They were just an inevitable link in the chain of metal's evolution. And there were a lot more cogs in the machine than just Satan's debut album back then, Holy Terror of all people should know this well.

I don't think anybody here has said that they're solely responsible for thrash and power metal. However, they certainly were one of the bands that helped found them.
