Have seen this genre being coined for bands that play heavy and/or power metal. I wouldn't classify "True Metal" as a genre as those bands could be classified under heavy/power metal. Agreed there are times when genres are subjective. So, how many of you would actually classify a band under a genre called True Metal and what would be the criteria for it? |

True metal is something made up by elitists that wish the lump the bands they like into some category that deems them superior to others. |

Though I believe Manowar should be in the True Metal category, as they are the kings. |

I'm guilty of this for bands like Manowar and Hammerfall. I have a shit ton of CD's that would qualify as "Power/Prog/Heavy," so I try to categorize them by the mood the music gives off. This helps me decide what I feel like putting on my iPod a little easier. |

True metal is somewhat a subjective term.I believe it was designed to show that metal from the 80's style is back and is seperate from nu metal. |

I agree with Ken, its not a genre, it is just something that elitest kids use to show they missed it the first time around. |

Yes I do think there is a trait that could be refered to as True, and these bands could be called True Metal. It describes bands like Manowar, Lost Horizon, Hammerfall etc. whether people agree that they are actually true or not, as thats of less importance. True mainly means to have a true "look", being true mainly in appearance etc. (though I don't see why the rule must exclude bands that could be said to be profoundly true either for that matter.) |

True metal is for me a definition of pureness and quality rather than musical classification. A death metal band can also be true. |

Which is subjective, meaning it's not a genre. Next. |

I'll use the term to describe a band, but not in the context of a genre |

No, I said that true is a definition of pureness and quality rather than a musical classification. Musical classification is genre indication, so for me True Metal isn't a genre. |

But Hammerfall sounds like Dokken (1st 2 albums not the crap Ken likes from them) mixed with Accept..... |

It's a hardline extremist viewpoint. Most conservative metalheads don't interpret heavy metal that way. ![]() |

I used to think of true metal as a genre for bands like Manowar, Edguy, Hammerfall, etc., but now that I think of it they're really just heavy metal bands that are especially tr00 to the "spirit of metal". |

Correction they had 2 bad ones Shadowlife and Dysfunctional. |

I quit after Back for the Attack. No G. Lynch, no Dokken, period and Hammerfall totally sound like early Dokken. |
