Heard a track from them last night on the radio (Deadly Sinners) and i thought it was pretty good. Heavy/power metal with an 80's metal influence.
The name of the band is what confused me, as it sounds like a thrash or death metal band.
The singer is great too, very high pitched, sounds like Halford with his balls in a vice

Can anyone shed some added info about this band?

They mix elements of hardcore with traditional heavy/power metal or so i've heard. It may sound off-putting, it did to me, but i guess this actually creates a pretty unique and cool style.

I've only heard that one song aswell and i think it's cool.

Oh man awesome band trooper. All the tr00 metul hedz will disagree b/c OMFGZ they has teh hardcore srcreama. No, I'm sorry, but when I first heard this band I heard no hardcore. Great old school traditional metal band with modern influences. They have awesome guitar work, catchy songs, speed, and yes the vocalist is fucking killer. I saw them live a while back and they are amazing live as well. Check them out.

Yeah awesome band. Not something I would usually like I thought when I heard of em, but I gave it a chance anyways and now Advance And Vanquish is one of my favorite albums of the last few years.

Their first album wasnt as good though, maybe cuz I went into that expecting more A&V.

*Waits for leee*

Very cool band, I heard a song (Destroy the Orcs) from their first album back in 2003 and I was all "wowee!" The main vocalist is indeed killer and while Jamie's vocals can be a little off-putting at times he never fucks up any of their songs.

The only thing I'd complain about is that the songwriting could be a little more developed - the songs need a little more individual idenitity.

What happens on the next album is anyone's guess since both the guitarists have left over the last couple of years. There was a demo of a song called "Goatrider's Hoard" posted a few months back that sounded awesome, though - more speed metal than what they've done up until now.

Anyway, cool band with two good albums. :dio:

I have to take the Holy Terror stance on this band. A parody band, nothing more, nothing less.

Except that they're not. I know its a nice, comfortable idea for you to hold on to but it's just not true and if you actually bothered to check up on what you were saying you would realise that. But, again, its just a lot more comfortable to sit back and dismiss them, huh?

Indeed, I don't care for the Hardcore screaming guy, but I would never say the band doesn't have merit. They are good at what they do, and I do give them credit for stepping outside of the box a bit.

There is no hardcore in 3 Inches Of Blood. None. Even with a screamer. It's all metal, baby! :dio:

EDIT: leeee is a fag.

Wrong. I heard 3 or 4 of their songs when everyone started creaming their panties over them as the next great true Heavy Metal band......... They fall into the Avenged Sevenfold and others like them camp. I can tell from a million miles away they are just some hardcore band that decided to try their hand at making a joke of true Heavy Metal and got popular for it. You want to hear the real deal listen to Twisted Tower Dire or Wolf or even the newest Grand Magnus (which I don't like that much but respect). I will pass on these guys but you guys please carry on digging them.

I bought the Battlecry under a wintersun when it first came out a few years ago because I heard good things about the band. I listened to the album and thought it was pretty good. Def. all metal. I bought a and V and thought it was pretty good. The funny thing is when i bought he first album every mention of 3 inches of blood was a positive one. they were an old-school type metal band with a different type of vocal approach that made fun music. When i first heard of them they were way underground. I had to search out the album as it wasnt on any major websites. Somehow they got realtively popular and people bash them now.. I have been accused of this in the past with some bands but I just dont see it with this band. They are a metal band. They are a good metal band. They arent the best band in the world but they make fun metal. Its driving music. People are just down on them because they got popular (relatively). By listening to this band I hear a bunch of guys that grew up listening to a lot of Maiden and Priest. Whats more metal than that?

Leee, you really need to get beyond your initial perception. It's not accurate. Not even close. This is a real metal band, their problem is that their lyrical content is fantastical, which often comes off as a joke even when the band is very serious about it. That's how it's always been. Their singer with the higher pitched vocals can sometimes get into a range where he kind of sounds like a crazed Muppet from a Jim Henson movie. Of course, that still doens't make them a parody, but I can see where one's ignorance on the band may make them believe they're a joke band.

Musically, you can't deny that these are not hardcore dudes playing metal. They blow away Avenged Sevenfold and those kinds of bands. 3 Inches Of Blood have also been around for a good while now, this isn't a band jumping on a trend.

They're metal, dude. Seriously.

Whatever, I don't like them and that is that. I think it must be a Canadian thing or something? I can't stand Into Eternity either and we all know how I feel about Exciter. Kataklysm is cool though.

I still think they are just a trendy joke band wether they play "heavy metal" or not.

Well, no one was trying to convince you to like them.

Well with the song i heard, this band does not sound in any way like a 'joke true metal' band...they sounded like the real deal. I also read somewhere that they are often misinterpreted as a parody band, such as leeee pointed out and is one of those people.

I think i'll delve more into this band....i am very curious now

You can stream the entire Battlecry Under A Winter Sun album HERE. This album is essentially a demo; it's really raw, but still good.

Thanks for the advice, Leee, I'll be checking that Grand Magnus lot out. Never heard of them before!

And personally, agreed with Rad - the songs are way too similar to each other. I think they get called 'core as much because they're identified with the Roadrunner scene, going on tours with Trivium and Still Remain, and generally appealing to that crowd as a novelty, even if they aren't.

And there is a teensy bit of 'core there, but that's not what they need to change.

3 inches of blood play Running Wild style metal with shared high-pitched Halfordesque, and growling children of bodom style vocals. There's nothing hardcore to them except for their looks, and I assure you they blow half of the current heavy/speed/power outuput to pieces!

Kill the orcs, slay the orcs, destroy the orcs, how can you go wrong with lyrics like that

Bahh.

Make sure you get Wolfs Lair Return if you get some Grand Magnus, it is their most trad Metal and not as Doomy as their other ones.
