Dream Quest Centralia – They label themselves adventure metal which is a silly tag IMHO but luckily that’s the extent of the silliness. Well maybe not one of the guys looks like he could be a Hanson brother out of Slapshot fame. The music is top notch euro-power metal influenced with crunchier guitars and heavier riffs. The songs with one proggy exception are pretty straight forward and speed fest. The album is filled with good riffs and nice solo’s .The vocals belong more to the traditional metal school staying for the most part in the mid range and avoiding the typical chorus from the euro-power metal genre. There are also some growled bits which are very effective in the context they are used. Overall they fit the music well and are nice and aggressive.
The album is only composed of 5 songs clocking in at around 33 minutes. Apparently this is a concept album in which the order in which the tracks are played determine what the story actually is about. I’ll have to take their word for since I have never sat down with the lyrics and experiment by hitting random on the CD player.
An excellent fairly unknown CD from this Winnipeg trio ( what is it with Canada and ass kicking trio’s?) which power metal fans should pick up.
