Post subject: | New Devin Townsend (hopefully) being recorded in spring 2007 |
Quote: HDR NEWS
November 2006 The big news this time is that Devin and Tracy would like to announce the birth of baby boy Reyner Liam Johnstan Townsend on October 4, 2006, weighing 8lbs 10oz. Even if Devin took some time away from touring to spend some quality time with his new family, he kept himself busy. He finished the Hummer CD that is now on sale exclusively on the HDR website. Remember this is Devin’s second ambient album. Calm & peaceful noises to fall asleep to. Not for everyone. Devin also started to work on his puppet show and even if for now there is no set timetable for the show, The first puppet is coming together with Devin just sculpting the finishing touches. He will work with many other people on this project (Travis Smith, Marcus Roger among others) and the show will relate stories of Ziltoid the Omniscient, an alien with ideas on destroying the Earth. Ziltoid will interview artists and musicians, seeking from them some reason not to blow up the world. On this break Devin also find the time to film an instructional video (15 minutes) that will ve posted on the website later in the year and he also wrote 5 new songs for an upcoming project style (like Terria or Infinity) he hopes to record Spring 2007. To finish, in February 2007 Devin will start production for the new Darkest Hour album in Vancouver. He will also mix this record. He has a weird idea of what a break is. Good to know the new Neurosis already has a rival for best album of 2007 :] |

Yep! I just ordered this bad boy today. I can't wait! Devin is out of control! It's good to hear about the puppet show, it sounded like it would be funny back when he first mentioned it like 3 years ago. I thought it to be just another Devin moment where he was thinking out loud. Good news, indeed! A new project like Terria and Infinity? *jizz* |

Yeah I remember him talking about a puppet show with aliens w/ death metal voices in an interview around when Alien came out. It should be pretty cool ![]() I can't wait for the new album though since Terria and infinity are my favourite two Devin albums... I think he does his best work when he's not really writing for a band and just goes nuts ![]() |

I still love DTB, though. Terria meets Infinity, however, would be amazing. |

![]() For the first time? Can you imagine, Devin was going through a bit of a mental breakdown at that time! ![]() |

I thought he went insane for Physicist and just did a lot of acid while making Infinity... Anyways I liked Accelerated Evolution, Ocean Machine and Synchestra (a bit less), but I think I've listened to Infnity and Terria 500+ times combined over the last 2 years... |

Synchestra is sort of like Terria, but more basic. Accelerated Evolution is his most simple album. Punky Bruster is a joke punk album—that rules! Go to http://www.hevydevy.com and listen to the MP3s on the discography page. That should give you a good idea. |

I'll see if I can get Gaysting's to put in an order for Terria. i think I'll be getting all of them eventually though. Thanks Ken. |

I started on Synchestra, which I don't think was a wise move (aaagh don't hurt me I just don't think its a good starting place ok oww stoppit ow). Terria was the second I bought and the first where I started going ![]() |

I started with Infinity. I was in ninth grade (so technically this was one of my first metal albums I heard) and thought it was brilliant. Eventually I went on to Ocean Machine and then Accelerated Evolution. I didn't bother with Terria until a few years later (I needed a new fix of Devy). Then I was blown away by it. I guess my point is, it doesn't matter where you start. Everything he has done is killer... everything. You never know what to expect. Pick an album and go from there. You'll eventually get around to hearing all of them, b/c you can never get enough Devin Townsend. |

![]() I don't think Synchestra is a good starting point either. It's a very cerebral album; it takes a good amount of listening for it to sink its teeth in. Terria is another album with a lot of depth, but it pulls you in immediately whereas on Synchestra you have to dig a little deeper—and be willing to, which a lot of people aren't. |

Synchestra was my first expierence with DTB, liked some of it, but as a whole it didn't really get me going. I've been told it's a little different from the other stuff though, which I've been meaning to check out. Too bad I'm a poor bastard at the moment.. ![]() |
