Post subject:  Strange Land - Blaming Season

I got this album a while a go and always seem to come back to it. There is something about it that really stands out. The music is high quality, tecnical without showing off and the songs are all well written. Blaming Season is the only album I have from them and I think they only have a demo out other than that. I was wondering what you guys might think of them or if you ever heard of them.

I have seen them listed as prog, stoner, or just plain heavy metal. I can def. see the prog and the stoner and even a touch of bluesyness on some tracks.

My favorite tracs are Obliquity and Below the After. Cause and Defect is pretty good as well. Let me know what you think. Even my non-metal friends seem to like them a lot.

Below the after is on their Myspce page: http://www.myspace.com/slband

It was pretty good, not a fan of that vocal style though.

I always liked th esound of his voice, but it took me a little while to get used to the delivery. Now i like it a lot.

This, in general, isnt a band that a few soundclips justify a decision. Just playing the album in the background, eventually grabs your attention. Thats what happened to me anyway.

i just downloaded Blaming Season off of Soulseek and hearing it with better sound quality makes it sound quite a bit better. Still not a fan of the vocals though. It reminded me a lot of Degree Absolute but with way chunkier riffs. I'll give it a few more listens.

I always kind of thought of them as Zero Hour with chunky riffs, so I definetly see what your talking about. They just really grew on me.

"Below the After" is alright. If this had some better production this could be good, but the vocalist needs to go. There is nothing remotely special about him.

the production could def. be better. The vocalist actually grows on you throughout the album. While the vocalist doesnt stand out as special, (I had to get used to him) I dont feel he detracts from the music though. Musically, there is a lot going on here, I feel. All of teh players are very good with their instruments and they have a good sense of melody while sounding original.

Judging tracks posted on a bands myspace for production is a bad idea since I think they stream 64/kbps files...

I've heard better production on myspace files with homemade production.

Not bad, but a bit undercooked, you know?
