I've decided to buy one or more X-Japan CDs. This is for two reasons: #1: They fucking rock #2: The guitarist in my band is Japanese and he hasn't heard of them. Considering we're a powermetal band this is unnaceptable on SO many levels Anywho, what CD would yall recommend? I'm looking for the best from their powermetal days, not the new progrock sound I hear they developped later. Oh and also, where would you recommend trying to find some of the CDs? Because the end mailorder doesn't have them, and neither do any my local stores, even the metal specific ones. |

I'll suggest you get Art of Life. The CD only contains one song which is 29 minutes long but it is probably THE best symphonic/power metal song I've ever heard. It's their only song that's completely sung in english. Check out this link where to buy: http://www.x-japan.de/wheretobuy.htm I'm sure you'll find it there ![]() |

I recommend Blue Blood and then Art of Life. This is one of my all time favorite bands. Anybody who hasn't heard them should at least give them a shot. Oh, and I'd look on ebay for purchases. |

Their singer really needs to grow some testicles. I just can't take them seriously. |

You have a Priest avatar and you have the audacity to say that? Don't you listen to Mercyful Fate?? GOATFUCKER I mean, the vocals sometimes bother me, but I don't think he needed balls. He just needed to sound better. His voice had a tendency to undercut the band's...grander moments. For example, Art of Life would have worked better with a better vocalist. But he works on Dahlia. Anyway, yeah, get Art of Life. It's excellent. |

Man there's clearly a difference between Halford and Whatshisman X-Japan. There are moments on Painkiller where it sounds like Halford could kill you just by screaming. |

Like Japans answer to the Cure. My ex used to work for a company that did all of their promotional stuff and she gave me a ton of their CD's, good stuff and very "out there". Plastic Tree is another crazy fashion band from there. As far as Metal sung in Japanese I don't know any off hand, almost all I have is sung in English. |

There really is a difference between the King Diamond/Halford and X-Japan's singer; the first time I heard them, my friend was listening to one of the piano/vocal parts of Art of Life and I thought it was a Celine Dion song. The vocals aren't the only problem; Art of Life and Blue Blood (the only two albums I've heard by them) have some cool guitar stuff every now and then, but those moments are few and far between, and the other moments aren't too fantastic. Then again, its been a few years since I last listened, so I might give them another try. |

I checked out the song "Kurenai" after seeing this thread. Really good stuff--I would probably get something by them if I didn't have twenty other CD's I need to buy and if their stuff wasn't impossible to find, or so I understand. |

My review of Blue Blood - Blue Blood is such a killer album, just listening to it is the equivalent of falling down a grassy hill and being analy raped by every twig on the hillside, which is an emotion no other album has ever given me. Score - 67/73 |

Wow, I checked out a video of Endless Rain - the vocals were weird at first. Then I grew to love it... Then I read up on X-Japan, and what not...then watched a video from The Last Live where they played their last song ever together (Endless Rain). Has to be one of the most emotional performances I've ever seen! Especially when you consider the turmoil in the band at the time, the fact that it was their last show, and then the fact that Hide would die less than a year later... -------------- I then proceeded to order Blue Blood and that box set (which includes the DVD of The Last Live)... Should be receiving soon! ![]() |
