This is what Matt Barlow is doing right now.

This came out like 2 years ago. Like I said then, I respect him immensely for this. He said he was leaving music for law enforcement and he did it. Most that talk shit like this are back in new bands within 6 months!!

I can't fault him for this. I hope he's happy.

Fuck that sucks. He had one of the best voices in Power metal. He needs to come back and counter balance the scene with fags like the Hammerfall vocalist. Oh well, if that is what he wants to do that is what he should be doing. I personally think their politics are bullshit but I do respect Barlow more simply becuase schaffer runs his mouth but doesn't act on it.

While I'm happy for Barlow, I do hope that he comes back to front a metal band eventually, even if its not Iced Earth, something tells me there was more behind Matt's leaving Iced Earth than just wanting to find something more fullfilling in life (aka the Schaffer effect). And while I have finally accepted Tim Owens as the vocalist for Iced Earth and actually have found a few songs on The Glorius Burden that I actually like, and I hope he does a knock up job with the Something WIcked albums that are now in progress, for me, Matt will always be the voice of Iced Earth.

I doubt it. What Barlow did was a total life reversal! He went from being a long-haired metalhead in one the best metal band out there to shaving his head, becoming a cop, and playing for a police band that plays goofy songs for kids. The only person behind this decision was Barlow. That's all that makes sense and he deserves respect (although he does look funny, hahaha).

I would love for Jon to take the masters of the Something Wicked trilogy and let Tim record vocals for them like they did with Matt on Days Of Purgatory. They could release it as an EP before the full album(s) come out. That would be awesome!!

Yeah this is old news, but like Eyesore said this is very commendable. He said he was going to do something and did it. I cannot stand Iced Earth's music mainly b/c of Barlows vocals, but now I respect him.

Btw, do not try and recommend me any Iced Earth albums. I have tried soooo many times to try and get into them, but I just can’t. I liked a couple from their live album, but not enough to keep me going.

Now, this is something worthy of getting banned for, no?

I've never liked Iced Earth either. OK I enjoy Night of the Stormrider and TGB sometimes but I never liked anything with Barlow on it. Never understood what was so special.

I'm not a big fan of Demons & Wizards either although I like it better than IE. The songwriting is uninteresting, the riffing monotonous and mechanic. The slightly slower songs are good though, and Hansi does a good job as always.

That too. It's just boring music, IMO.

God please no, Ripper, he can sing but he doesn't fucking "get it". He sucks and would ruin a fine album, fuck he almost single handedly ruined Iced Earth with his ott bullshit vocals. I am sorry, the dude has fucking talent but he is the square peg in the round hole.

Barlow kicks his fucking ass all over. You think Owens could ever fucking sing I died for you or Melancholy, please god no.......

You guys are absolutely insane. You wouldn't know good Heavy Metal if it bit your ass. I see praise for Cellardoor, Strat, Hammerfal, Elvin freaking King, Avantasia and all of this garbage but you all don't like Iced freaking Earth? Jezz.

Praise for all those bands plus; Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Death, Necrophagist, King Diamond, Axxis, Dio, Mercyful Fate, Angel Dust, Agent Steel, Armored Saint, Coroner, Testament, Raven, Primal Fear, Wolf... I could go on forever. These are all bands I have taken part in discussing recently. Where the hell were you when I was talking about those? You read what you want to read. Yes, I don't like snoooozzze fest Iced Earth, get the fuck over it. But, I like a lot of the same shit you like, you just don't seem to notice.

Its more fun to be a would-be (read: failed) elitist ass than talk about common ground, it would seem.

No praise for Hibria?

Much respect to Barlow. I would never leave that behind at my peak, speacially for a stress ridden job like a cop.

I bet he earns more in this job, though.

lol quite possibly. Depends on what city you work in, rank, and seniority. I can't say or guess how much he pulled from his IE days but my guess is since he has only been a cop for a couple of years he is not earning a whole lot. Myabee they give him bonus pay for being in the band?
