My rating: 85/100

Good songs (but by nowadays standards fairly generic) and crappyish production. I like it. The vocals aren't my cup of tea, but whatever. Gorgar is my fave atm, you gotta love those lyrics. It's my first power metal album and I'm not put off the genre at all, encouraged, actually.

Just fillin' y'all in.

Lazy.

EDIT: By the way, this is a good place to start. This album is very raw and I find it hard to listen to sometimes, but it's still great.

Great album! Classic German Speed Metal!!!

Keeper I - 10/10
WoJ - 9/10
Keeper II - 8/10

And of course Live In The UK. And then...there was silence. I think it would have been better if Helloween had disbanded after Keepers. Helloween without Hansen isn't worth a shit :?

Good album if you like Kai Hansen's voice those who don't and those who don't care for Gamma Ray will not like it.

But it's a good album a nice strong debut for Helloween.

Glad you like it Pete. I assumed you would have liked this bad boy more than the Keeper albums since the vocals are a lot more gruff. On Keepers you'll find the same basic sound but with the aggression (and some of the speed) toned down a bit and vocals that are a lot more clean and soaring.

I agree with Radagast. If you add up the sheer quantity of music in this one, and then keeper albums, it looks like they took riffs and melodies from Walls and just produced two more records :D Don't get me wrong, I love all three of them! But walls has balls (rhymes too)! Oh, and the most epic intro of all time with the hungover guy!

STAAAARLIGHT!

Personally its my favorite Helloween release. It thrashes with fury and has some of the best guitar leads and soloing Helloween ever did. Plus its just soooo damn heavy. I see nothing generic about considering it is the template for which all other heavy metal bands based their sound. So with that in mind there is nothing generic about it.

I did some research, and, once I'd got over the awful production, it's just like Maiden. Speaking seriously and with no intent of causing a huge flamefest, what's so special about them?

they're both speedier and heavier than Maiden. arguably more epic.

Speedier maybe, but my problem with power metal aways comes down to the plagiarism. Not all death metal bands sound like Death, so why do the majority (of bands I've heard) have to take that path?

And heavier how, just because of the production? I've found little to suggest that there's better stuff out there than Maiden/Priest. I suppose it's subjective...

yeah, I won't comment on the production because I honestly I love the muddy stuff anyway.. but they definetly seem to give me more of an earbashing than any NWOBHM. persistence of riffs is a factor I think.

I give Walls of Jericho a 95/100 my favorite Helloween album.

I really like the album now, very good stuff. Gorgar is till my favourite, especially with that wierd halloween bit towards the end. I think the vocals are OK, but a bit annoying. Anybody else think that the bass at the beginning of Guardians is very annoying? BAM BAM BEEM BEEM BAM BAM BEEM BEEEM. Uuugh.

Its both heavier, and more out of control than Iron Maiden. They essentially took the Satan, Priest, and Maiden sound and made it faster. They trademarked the tremolo picking of very melodic harmonized leads. Everyone else before that either thrashed, or layed harmonized leads. Helloween was the first to thrash harmonized leads. That is why Walls of Jericho is such a landmark. No one played melodic heavy metal that aggressively. They did what Satan did, but faster.

Great album; one of the first "fast" records I've ever listened to and still one of my faves.

I mean... RIDE THE FUCKING SKY!!!!! How can you possibly go wrong with that?! And of course there's a ton more great tracks to find....

We're on to this again. Could you mistake this album for Rhapsody? Or Morgana Lefay?

I'm sure to the casual listener most Death Metal does sound the same, but the casual listener doesn't always feel compelled to talk about it.
