I was wondering if anyone has picked up the new Blind Guardian single "Fly". It doesnt seem like its coming to the States anytime soon which I find very dissappointing.

I have heard it... And its very weird, and alas, not really in a good way.

I'm sure there will be some good stuff on the new album. But I'm not expecting another Nightfall.

Brahm, check the News thread. You heard the Therion song with Hansi doing vocals. The song is from their Deggial album, the real song is much more like a Blind Guardian song. NESS lead us all astray! I knew that song sounded like Therion! :D

You're damn right, you sonofabitch! You ruined metal for a lot of people for a little while there! You should feel bad!

Ha ha ha! I knew that song sounded slightly familiar (been a long time since I've listened to Deggial)... And the Therion vibe was definitely there. Thanks for the heads up, man... Can't wait to hear the actual thing.

I've never heard Deggial and even I thought it sounded like Therion. I love what I've heard of Therion (four albums or so), so I actually liked the song. I was playing the real single the other day and halfway through "Fly" I was like, "Hold up? WTF?" Hahaha. It's definitely a good song, the "In A Gadda Da Vida" cover is awesome, I think, too.

It is actually a pretty good song; it was just in the context of it being a Blind Guardian song that I was worried. In any case, thanks once again for the heads up; I'm downloading it at the moment (apparently from Husker) and can't wait to listen.

The beginning is kind of odd, kind of like...I don't know..."dancey?" Hahaha. It's weird.

Ya, that really is a weird beginning.. But besides that, the song is completely excellent. Onto Skalds and Shadows.

Finally got my hands on this (downloaded it from Nuclear Blast online shop) and so far so good, though its still a freakin tease of whats to come.
Fly was very different from what I am used to from these guys, I think they attempted to blend alot of the styles from their previous album into this one, overall really cool though some parts feel a little too proggy to me.
Skalds and Shadows reminds me of A Past and Future Secret with the very medieval acoustic guitars (almost like something out of Blackmore's Night), I like these kinds of songs, just so long as they dont make up a majority of the new album.
In A Gadda da Vida is a real kick ass cover, probably one of Blind Guardian's heavier performances.
So far I am very happy with Fredrick Ehmke as the new BG drummer. I think he has a more aggresive style behind the drum kit than Thomen did, more like a Scott Travis.

The version of "Skalds and Shadows" on the single is an exclusive acoustic version, it won't appear on the album this way. I don't know if it'll be heavy, or the same style just with more going on. We'll have to wait and see. It's a good song as is, so I can't imagine it being bad on the full-length.
