HAMMERFALL recently joined forces with the Swedish women's Olympic curling team to shoot a new video for their track "Hearts On Fire", a song from the group's 2002 album, "Crimson Thunder". The track has been reissued as a single in Sweden to give a "boost" to the team as they prepare for the Winter Olympics next month in Turin.

"In preparation for the Olympic Games in February, we joined forces with one of Sweden's brightest hopes for a gold medal," said HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak in a statement posted on the band's web site. "With heavy metal as a source of strength, the girls can now focus on bringing home the gold."

According to ChartAttack.com, the video features the team led by Anette Norberg pitted against the metalheads, who have few curling skills but know how to have a good time. Mayhem ensues when rocks and brooms go flying and a drum kit appears on the ice. By the end of the video, the athletes have turned in their team uniforms for the leather and studs duds that inexplicably remain popular among rockers.

"The video was a blast to record, an attitude shared by everyone involved. The result is an amusing and, for us, a little unusual video," stated Dronjak.

You can now watch this utterly ridiculous clip online: Windows Media, Quicktime.

Power metal gets worse every day. And no, it's not as good as they pretend. It's rather pathetic, actually.

Some bands are getting worse by the day, yes. BUT, other bands are progressing power metal into a new light. Such as; Dragonforce, Cellador, Twilightning (if their new album is good)... uhh... there is more I just can't think of any right now.

Edit - DOH!! Elvenking

there is an incongruity between your statement and your quote.. nevertheless, we shall ignore the petty affairs of logic and proceed to laugh in Hammerfall's collective faces:

HAHAHA NORTHERN CURLING FORGED WITH TRUEST STEEEL

Staying up late = Logical errors in power metal-related posts. Point it out and I'll correct it.

You're absolutely right, this promotional video just acutely contributed to the decline of a style of music.

...

That is some cringeworthy stuff though.

Bahahahahaha!!!  Oh my fucking god, I knew that they were going to make a video with the curling team but this is avtually the first time I see it. By the way, this isn't the first time they do ridiculous stuff like this. A few years ago, they were on "Grynets show", quite possibly the worst abomination ever to infest swedish television. I don't know what they did, but I doubt the metal factor of it :P

Thought the video was pretty funny, but nothing wrong with wanting to help out your fellow countrymen. Curling, eh, a bit weird but they mean well.

How would you all feel if Iron Maiden did something to help out the English soccer team in preparation for the world cup?

Football ist krieg. Curling ist not. And Iron Maiden can actually play football, whilst Hammerfall can't curl, if that's the right word...

They didnt seriously try to curl, it was all for the video. I agree, chosing Curling is strange, but like i said, nothing wrong with doing something to help out your countrymen

Hahaha, it was eating at me all day and I finally decided to watch it and it was great! This video is just like CoB covering Britney Spears, I dont think its meant to be taken to seriously and you can tell they were just having fun with it.

Wow. I was expecting it to be bad but that was just embarrasing. Glad nobody walked in on me watching that. Metal goes great with sports...unless it's women's curling.

Indeed. Hammerfall have always been a joke, at least now they're a funny one.
