Post subject:  IRON MAIDEN VS. JUDAS PRIEST

facts :
- both are very important and influencial bands
- Judas Priest are the Godfathers of modern heavy metal
- Iron Maiden are their illegitimate sons
- Judas Priest have great songs but not so many consisten albums
- Iron Maiden have more consistent albums but none has been released in a long time now...
- Bruce Dickinson & Rob Halford have both tried to get away from metal (Two, Skunkworks... around the same years) but both came back (1rst) to metal, (2nd) to their historical band

who will you choose ?

discuss...

I voted Maiden the first time we had this poll, I'll vote it again now.

I'll dispute the claim that Maiden are Priest's illegitimate sons, Harris was writing Maiden-style music when Priest were doing Rocka Rolla.

I guess you're right, Iron Maiden are Wishbone Ash's, Thin Lizzy's, Jethro Tull's, Deep Purple's & Judas Priest's illegitimate sons (my description was too much of a short cut)

NP
Bobby McFerrin "Beyond Words" (one of the most extraordinary voices I heard...)

Maiden.

Maiden is the most consistant band on the planet.

(don't bring up a non-metal band)

you know me... I think Metallica have been more consistent than Maiden (maiden had many average to bad albums after 7th Son).. and then, Nevermore, Coroner and many more are more consistent than Iron Maiden too... (granted those are either younger bands or dead bands but I think that still counts :P)

unconsistent Iron Maiden albums are (imho) :
- No Prayer for the Dying (a few good tunes but a garage sound I dislike and, overall, an okay album but hardly more than that)
- Fear of The Dark (better than NPFTD but still pretty lousy when compared to any of the first 7 albums)
- X Factor (the better of the three but kinda sluaghtered by Blaze's performance. I'm glad he found his way with his solo albums btw...)
- Vitual XI (the only very bad album IM ever did, but this is a major crap, almost comparable to St Anger except here I save one song, Como Estais Amigo, where I save none in St Anger)
- Brave New World (a half good album, 6 songs are almost a math to the classic era, the other half is just average... yet, Maiden's best album since 7th Son)
- Dance of Death (2nd worst to Virtual XI, funny to notice Bruce's latest was far better, maybe we just need Bruce to take control of Iron Maiden while Harris would remain He Who Knows How Iron Maiden Should Sound but leave the songs to the others...

with what I said, you can understand why I don't consider Iron Maiden to be that consistent

NP
Henry Cow "In Praise of Learning" (something Queudlézard should like)

Bah! Fine! If we are going based on Stefan's reasoning here, I'd still say Maiden. I like Judas Priest and all, but Maiden has more of the style I enjoy. I love their sense of melody, I love Bruce's voice, I love Harris' bass lines, I love their catchiness, I love to see live video footage of them (all 100 live dvds), I love the adrenaline they can fill their audience with, I love the fact that they took an egging like a band who has heart... more Iron Maiden ranting...

It is one of my life goals to see Maiden live.

hey ! guess what ? I agree with everything you said (except for the DVD part 'cause musical dvds bore me)... I'm also glad I saw Maiden so many times I don't count it anymore (that includes Blaze Gorilla) and I do hope you'll see them soon (they're still a damn good live band !)

but I won't call them consistent (though they still are more than JP who never made a perfect album, always a few fillers with JP...)

and then, I love Maiden so much I guess I still expect more and better from them when, let's face it, they're quietly finishing their career a bit like Deep Purple and The Rolling Stones or AC/DC if you see what I mean...

Jethro Tull?! Dude, have you ever listened to this band? They make The Eagles sound like GWAR. Anyway I vote Maiden. Priest are good but generally quite "meh".

try Thick as a Brick or Aqualung if you haven't, you'd then certainly get what I meant... (those guys were way heavier than many hard rock bands in the first half of the 70's) 8)

MAAAIIIDDDEEEEEEN.

Jethro Tull fucking owns. Aqualung is the best, and Acres Wild is the best song. "sitting on a park bench...eyeing little girls with bad intent" "i'll make love to you...in many strange places" Surreal lyrics, of course.
