So, since we've been talking about Dan Swano this week, here's a treat. In 1996 a band named Steel released an EP called Heavy Metal Machine.

Image

The tape version had three tracks, the vinyl had two. The band members were:

Dan Swanö - vocals
Mikael Åkerfeldt - guitars
Anders Nordin - drums
Peter Lindgren - bass

This was just a one-off EP of cheesy 80's power metal, but it's still wicked cool, though. Dan Swano once again shows that he's the fucking man on vocals, even if this is meant to be seriously cliched (except maybe "Say Goodbye (To Love)," that's just way over the top). Check it out:

HEAVY METAL MACHINE (EP)

Tracklisting:

1. Heavy Metal Machine
2. Rock Tonite
3. Say Goodbye (To Love)

If you like The Darkness, "Say Goodbye (To Love)" will please you. Hahaha. Dan goes so high it's ridiculous.

Yeah, I love music like this. It may be gay and cheesy to some..but I like it.

Nice. It is indeed quite good. Too bad they only ever did these three tracks.

This really reminds me of early Pantera. :D

Over the top - A phrase meaning unbelievable excessiveness completely bypassing the point of annoyance. Designed to elicit reluctant and unexpected approval. See also: Dan Swano's vocals on Heavy Metal Machine

Ha, that was actually very good! :) I haven't heard Swanö's growls almost at all, but it's very impressive that he can sing this good in a clean voice! Taking in the fact that he has growled for like 10 years and hasn't ruined his voice to be able to pull something like this out! Spectacular! :D Of course it wasn't perfect, but had he done some training he could have come a "real singer" like the rest of 'em. The lead guitar work was awesome too, kickass-wet-my-pants type :D And that last track sounded like a Michael Bolton/Whitesnake ballad...

Yeah, the solos are excellent! Dan covers "Melissa" on a Mercyful Fate tribute and he nails the high notes, so I'm thinking he sang this way on purpose to give it extra cheese, you know?
